I have a 87 Dodge Ram 150 with 1 bl carb that I am trying to wake up a little. I purchessed a 2 bl Holly carb off a 318 and a 2 bl intake/ exhust manifole off a 83 ram truck. Expecting them to bolt up I tore everthing down only to find that the bolt patterens are different. The two bl exhust is about 1/4 shorter at the bolt holes if I place the center one on first. What do I do next: drill out the center hole, use my old exhust manifold, change the head? any suggestuions would be helpful.

The bolt patterns are the same. Do you have the exhaust seperated
from the intake? I believe they mount best when seperated. Tighten all bolts loosely first and tighten the intake to exhaust bolts last. When I have
changed exhaust minifolds I have found it sometimes necesssary to tap
carefully the studs on the head to allign them with the manifolds holes.
One quater inch isn't that much. Good luck.

Sounds like a badly worped exhaust manifold, use the intake / exhaust manifold gasket to check things out.
If you cant open-up the holes to make it fix, try swapping over to youe other exhaust manifold, all the bolt patterns are the same.

Thanks for the help in getting the two bl conversion done the truck runs well but still needs some help. I endded up using the 1 bl exhaust manifold becuase the 2 bl one was warped. The problem that I now have is that I can't get the choke to close on cold starts without doing it manualy under hood. I have adjusted the spring tention on choke made sure that all linkage were free and checked all conections. The carb is a Holly I think that the choke link is off a BBD, could that be my problem?

The problem is tha tthe v-8 carbs use a slightly different choke linkage than the slant six carbs. Check out http://www.slantsix.org/articles/supersix/article.htm

I hate to say it but the only way you will get the choke to work right with that carb is to either get creative bending the rod form the pulloff, modify the choke linkage as discussed in the article, or swap the linkage parts out with a carb from a slant six.

how 'bout a manual choke? I may be an early quitter , but when I have choke problems,I always seem to go with a manual.....
