| Post subject: | Multispark ignition by mopar? |
Hey there I have a direct connection racing manual that talks about a multispark ignition system that uses the same harness and wiring than the old 5 or 4 pins modules, diffrent module and dist and a transformer instead of coil, and fires each spark plug more than once per 2 revs. Does anyone has ever saw such a thing? they claim that this ignition sys can improve a lot the performance of an auto trans car. |

I think Slantzilla commented on the Mopar Performance rebadged MSD systems in another thread (in a galaxy far, far away...)... They are just overpriced MSD6 units rebadged for mopar, from what other sources tell me... Can't comment on it other that I think I'd just spend the $150 on a MSD6 when I get to that bridge... -D.Idiot |

Its a popular ignition box made by the company MSD, model 6a. Check out www.msdignition.com By the way, your stock ignition coil is as much a transformer as any. Any two coils placed in close proximity of each other (most often within the same metal frame) acts as a transformer. |

It is special in the sense that it probably produces a hotter spark then a stock unit, but thats it. Fancy more technical words always look more impressive on the box |

so that is to say that it wouldn't be soooo diffrent than my 4 pin ignition module... even if it fires more than 1x per 2 revs? |

Internally it is different and you may notice a difference in performance with it. You'll get a more complete burn, helping you use all of your fuels potential. And as a side affect, better emissions too because of less raw fuel dumping out the tailpipe. |

The MSD fires a multiple spark that occurs over 20* of crank rotation. This happens up to 3000RPM, after that, it fires a single spark. There are many types of MSD units, all vary with price and quality. MSD5 MSD6a MSD6al(has a built in rev limiter) MSD7 MSD8 Digital6 Digital7 and some programable units The unit you describe is the MSD6C. It plugs right in to the OEM type wire harness. It has been discontinued for many years. The MSD6al is the most popular and is very streetable. It is an upgrade from the Mopar Performance orange, chrome and gold boxes. The black MP MSD6a unit is a few dollars cheaper than the same red unit sold by the aftermarket. Only difference is the paint and decals. If you buy one, get a matching coil, for the MSD6al, the MSD Blaster II coil is commonly used. Cecil |
