| Post subject: | Post Super Six Swap |
since performing my super six swap, my car has been blowing out white smoke on start up. it also blows just a little black smoke when you hit the throttle but when you let off it turns white. i think the smoke is white, if its grey its a very light grey. when its hot outside, after driving for a while, sometimes when i stop and have to sit at a light, when i take off it kinda hesitates and then starts sputtering and dies. then i have to sit and hold down the gas to the floor and try and start it and when it does it blows out plenty of black smoke. my brother who is a mechanic adjusted the carb for me the first time. ive adjusted the carb myself today and its still smoking. i followed the directions in the super six swap article. is it running to rich? thats kinda what i thought but ive also been told that the fuel might be heating up and i might try a carb spacer. ive also checked my water and im not losing any. im still running the stock exhaust manifold and pipe if that might be causing a problem?any help would be appreciated. |

I had the same issue. Check on the accel pump (carburetor) and see if the air/fuel regulator duct ain't clogged. Mine was clogged and I had the same issue. Sometimes if that duct gets clogged it may look like if it's too rich, but the diffrence is that you get li'l low end power at small throttle openings and tends to stall if cold. Good Luck! |

yes, remove the needle and use an air compressor to blow thru carb hole (where you removed the needle) if it gets better, then remove the carb, buy a new set of gaskets and thingys, pour it fully inmersed in paint thinner and let it seat for a while (couple of hours) then clean everything with a pain brus (new one) and then wash the whole main body with hot water and detergent. Then use the compressor again to blow away dirt and water leftovers and there you go. The needle regulates the low idle (among other things) and your issue sounds like low idle conducts clogged. Good luck. Juan |

i had that problem once with my one bbl and a family friend who is a mechanic helped me with it. when i was at his shop today gettin gas my car sputtered and died. he came out there and he says he thinks the carb and fuel is getting too hot and i need to get a spacer. i got to thinkin that since im still running the small restrictive one bbl exhaust pipe that maybe its having to work to push the exhaust out and its heating up the exhaust manifold and thats heating up my intake. could this be a possibility? i should be getting a larger exhaust put on in the next week are so, so well see if that helps i guess. if i do get a spacer does anyone know where i could pick one up at? will a one or one and a half inch spacer have any effect on my performance? spacers on v8's sometimes give em a few extra horses. what about hood clearance with a spacer? does anyone have any experience with these situations? |
