Post subject:  alternator questions

hi again, got most the stuff done for the engine swap, but was overly excited to start and didnt take note where the alternator wires went, ive got three places for wires, one is a stud/nut, the wire with an eyelet goes there, but ive got two male end slide connectors on the back of the alt to, other two wires are a dark green, and a black one i put on the replace to cracked/bare wire white one that was an obvious replacement from the factory wire, it has a female end slide connector that goes to the alternator, guessing this goes to the coil, which side though? thanks, also i know the black one goes on top(wire was still fastened to alt)so by deduction the dark green goes on the bottom plug, thanks!

What year car are you working on? Early cars only had one alt field connection, so you may have to add a wire for the other terminal. The coil wire (positive side) should have a small ring connector, not a spade, unless it's been "redone". That wire should trace back to the ballast, while the alternator field wire(s) should trace back to the voltage regulator.

its a 67, when dad woke up he thought it was(we both thought it sounded weird)grounded, so i grounded it and it appears to be working...

Ground one field (spade) connection on the later two-field wire alternator (doesn't matter which), and you have a one-wire alternator. The simplest thing is to just replace the insulative washer under the screw that holds the brush in (the thing the spade is made to) and replace it with a regular metal conductive one. Just make sure you hook up the wire to the one you didn't ground!
