My uncle has a 1982 D-150 with a 225 1-barrel and automatic with 3.25 gears. He had a new carburator put on it and since then it has lost all of its power. When ever you go up a hill it will lose 5-10 miles per hour no matter how far you press the gas pedal. It floats the lifters at 4,000 RPM so flooring it does no good. has no vacum leaks and the exhaust is not stopped up. It has over 100,000 miles on it but burns no oil. It has the Spark Control System mounted on the side of the air cleaner and I think that may be the cause of the problem. It acts the same as my truck did when the vacum advance stuck at zero but this thing has no vacum advance on the distributor. If you need more info let me know. |

Do you still have the old carb.? If so, swap it back onto the engine to see if the problem goes away. It could be that the power circuit is plugged on the re placement carb. DD |

Sorry, I don't have the original Carb. Turned it back in for a core charge. Here is another tip, it diesels sometimes when you switch it off. |

It is possible you have something causing the ESA computer to go into "limp" mode. This mode just provides a fixed ignition advance and poor engine performance. This can be caused by defective engine temperature sensor for the computer (this is a different sensor than is used for the temp gauge in the cab), or faulty pick-up coil in the distributor, and other things. There are service manual procedures for checking if the computer is providing proper ignition advance. Other possibility.... My 1987 truck has a glitch with the computer if when I start the engine and it does not start "clean" (if I have to restart it or attempt cranking the engine more than one time) the computer gets stuck in limp mode. When it does this, I must shut off engine, wait a few seconds, then restart and it works normal again. I can tell when it's in limp mode because I have poor performance and the lock-up torque converter does not lock up. My torque converter is electronically controlled by the computer. Yours (if you have one) is controlled mechanically inside the transmission so you will not exhibit that problem. Then again there may be a problem with your "new" carburetor. That's one thing I hate about having to return things like your old carb for a core. Now you will never have it again to do trouble shooting with. |

-Idle air / fuel mixture is not correct.-Spark timing is to advanced. -Throttle is open to much when the engine is shut-off. DD |

Had similar problem once in my d-100. Found the carb gasket at the base didn't seal correctly. Replaced the gasket and torqued the carb back down, and the problem went away. |

I had a similar problem once after replacing a throttle body. Turned out that the gasket supplied to me blocked.....you guessed it, the vacuum circuit........may want to pop that carb and make sure nothing is blocked under the carb. Kevin |
