I switched to Pertronix just so I wouldn't have to deal with points. I'm not sure if it gave me a HP boost, but it was easier than doing a full electronic ignition.

This is the setup I am going to try. 225 super six mopar purple cam P4120243 (duration 244/244 O-lap 28 center line 108 lift .436/.436) carter bbd k&n air filter open breather. Going to be running some performance plug wires and got some four prong bosch plugs for it. I am rebuilding it and have replaced the rings and all the bearings and lifters also reseated the valves and polished the head all the gaskets will be replaced as well but arnt quite yet. It will all bolt onto a 904 automatic tranny with 3.23 or 3.21 gears. I'm also trying to get more performance out of my tranny with a tip i picked up in one of my mopar action magazines. Aside from this setup the only thing that might change is i might plain the head for more compression but i still want to be able to run regular fuel none of this premium stuff to expensive. |

hi, did you degree that mopar cam in? mopar wants 102* installed centerline with that cam. that cam in a 68 225 that i just did needed 2* advanced, so i used a cox brothers 9 position timing set to get it right. awesome cam for the street and has plenty of torque. ron |

I doubt you will be in the 16's with out the head work. shave it and port it and then you will be there for sure. The porting dosent have to be an all out expensive thing. I did mine with a dremmel using a tungsten carbide cutter and some grinding stones. the biggest gains are from removing the lip around the valve seat and the lump around the valve stem. It really woke my engine up. |

I just whittled the casting flash out of the ports on my 'road oiler' duster and installed the super six on it, and it doesn't burn teh clutch up trying to get off the line any more...runs real strong... -D.Idiot |

It was in the ports (both exhaust and intake) in the head, never touched/smoothed the valve guides or the seats. It wasn't even a 'gasket match either, just got rid of all the casting 'trash' in the ports... -D.Idiot |

A good cool engine is a happy engine(just had to say that  ) It will help your engine by keeping it at the right temp(less chance of detonation). This way you will be able to enjoy your truck for many more miles to come. Does your truck have A/C? If it does, you might be better off getting an aluminum radiator. Expensive, but very efficient.

there is no air conditioning but i did think of changing that at one point decided against it and i was thinking of going with a alluminum rad for the 318 but am worried about heat come winter |
