| Post subject: | Clutch Fans? (Not a tranny question) |
I haven't read much about fans with hydraulic or thermostatic clutches on the forum. Do they make them for slant sixes and do they help? I put one of those hi-po fans from Mopar on my 318 '66 Barracuda and it made a big difference in cooling. Has anybody used fans beside stock or electric? How did it work out? Do you have parts numbers? Thanks, Joe |

I use a clutch fan in my Satellite. Don't know what it came out of as I found the fan with a locked up clutch in the back of a truck, and used a clutch from a mid-'80's 318 M body. With a 19" radiator and 3500+lb car, it cools just fine. You shouldn't have a problem fitting one in your truck, though I don't believe they will fit in A bodys. |

Just go to the junkyard you should be able to find a Volare or Aspen /6 with A/C that should have a 5 or 7 blade thermostatically controlled clutch fan... I run a 5 blade version from a '78 Volare on my duster... -D.Idiot |

YEs, of course they work -- the main problem is that there's no room (depth) available to mount a clutch fan in many A-body applications. |

Moparfreak, I wanted one for my Scamp, so I took one of an 80ish LeBaron (maybe a Volare?) with a slant. It's a 5 blade with a thermastatic clutch. Thing is it's about 3 1/2 inches deep and it ain't gonna fit in my car without modifications. I've been to at least 3 parts stores asking for shallower clutches with no luck (even used DI's trick of the 74 duster 360). I'sve asked for vans, trucks, cars whatever. Anywho, If you'd like it I paid $30 for it, so that plus shipping and it's a deal. It also has the pulley with it if that is of interest. I suppose I'll have to go electric if I want to loose my 4 blade. Todd |

There is another option..... I, too, plan to go to an electric fan setup at some point, but for now I have a flex-fan installed on the Duster. It's a good quality, factory looking job, not the el-cheapo Taiwan-ROC type you see all the shivvy guys use on their 350's You can get an aftermarket one (I think mine is 5 or 7 blade, I can't remember) or you can find them on a lot of small block equipped stuff in the 70's and possibly more. These aren't as good as a fan clutch, but they flatten out at RPM. I remember a thing Car Craft did testing fans, and they did nearly as good as a fan clutch if not as good... I'll have to see if I can dig that issue up. D/W |

| Post subject: | Stubby fan clutch to fit S6...from Dakota? |
I found a Mopar fan clutch short enough to fit in my 76 Valiant with room to spare. I have no idea what it came off of however. The part number on it is 3462108. Anyone out there got a way to look up what it fits? Now the better news...... I noticed the V6 Dakota's and Caravan's that are showing up in the salvage yards have a nice stubby fan clutch. |
