With the 8.25" F-body rear W/ 3.21's I ran 16.84(from a best of 17.1 W/ 2.76's in a 7.25") this past saturday at Pittsburgh. while we were there my brother-in-law walked around the swap meet and saw this sign: A-body 8.75" 3.23 sure grip complete drum to drum $250. it is now in my garage WHAT A DEAL!! all it needs is drum resurfacing. the 8.25 will be for sale very soon CHEAP! it needs a pinion seal and an axle seal. I did have to clean up some rust off of the spiders but it works great. |

there were 11 cars and the buzzin half dozen won the eliminations. the /6 fast 4 was won by the little white arrow. he was running 10.4's.(I'm embarrased to say I forgot his name already sorry) I had a great time. I didn't watch the rest of the eliminations because we were driving out to Pittsburgh to get the rear. |

It was lots of fun. Thanks for all the help, and for showing me around. Your car was very well done, and I just hope I can keep up with you by next year. I do want that rear. When you are ready, let me know, and I'll be out to get it, or perhaps we can meet at the track sometime. (Cheap is my favorite price) Damn am I sunburnt!!!  What a great day it turned out to be!

can anyone tell what type of sure grip this is from the picture(cone or clutch)? this is the first 8.75 that I have ever opened and must claim ignorance on how to tell them appart.

does anyone know if there is a kit or the part numbers for the seals that go between the backing plates and axles(they look like some kind of foam) and for between the housing and the 3rd member? |

The angle of that photo doesn't make it look like the auburn posi from a 8 1/4, but I don't have a guess of what else it would be. 10 year old information is questionable, but in high school, I believe I used some cheap gasket-in-a-tube for the 3rd member. I don't recall using anything on the axle install/backing plates. Dry fit? The axles have a seal inside the housing, don't they? This isn't much help, I know, but perhaps it will get others thinking. |

If you look up axle flange gasket at kragen.com, they will list two, an inner and outer. The inner is the one between backing plate and axle, the outer is between axle flange and backing plate. The inner one is made of a thinner metal, kind of like the original steel headgasket, and the outer is paper like. The axle is sealed on the inside with a traditional round seal, so the flange gaskets are just a backup really. If you decide to replace the bearings, and order the green bearing kits, they come with the axle seal, and the outer flange seal referd to above (the paper replacment to the one you say looks like white foam). For the housing -> carrier gasket, look under the rear end cover category and you'll get what you need. I would also recommend you remove the axle vent screw (one holding down the brake tee lines) and make sure it isn't clogged up. They are still availible new for a few bucks from the dealer if you have any trouble with yours. |

thanks for the info guys. I guess I just have to get a new diff cover gasket then. I hope to put this back together and in the car by saturday night. then get the 8.25 out of my garage and into someone elses. I think I also need to get 5 more lug nuts. I dont think the 8.75 has left hand threads on the driver side. I went to moparts and found really good diagrams of the two style suregrips. mine is definately a cone style. |

I think felpro makes a nice steel gasket (normally if a garage has taken out the axles they use fast gasket) i have a set somewhere but the local parts store (real parts store not autozone or advanced) can look it up with no trouble |

It's in!! now if I just had a correct length driveshaft. I should be able to pick it up on tuesday from the shortening shop. I feels good to be able to put the slots back on the rear. |

I got the drive shaft back today, but the wife has to work tonight so I have to wait till morning to install, bleed brakes and go for a ride. |
