I have been reading about all of the benefits of a Super six and I have been thinking about converting my Duster over to one. I would like to know exactly how much power this would add to my car? Will it be able to take any cars on the street(besides my Uncles D-150), will it be able to chirp one of the tires from a standstill. Here is the Specs on my car. 1974 Plymouth Duster bone-stock 225 904 A/T 7 1/4 open rear(2.76 gears) fully undercoated A/C, power steering, and drums all around(scary) 14 inch radials mounted on rallyes |

You'll feel more power and probably see some mileage gains...what kills the tire chirping is the 1st gear ratio of your automatic and the 2.76 rear ratio... This conversion worked excetionally well in my '74 Duster with the 2.76's, but I have the A-230 3 spd manual with the 3.09 1st Gear so my 'leaving' ratio is much kinder than the A904.... Personally If I was in your shoes, I'd still do the conversion, then start looking for a 3.23 rear.... -D.Idiot |

If your carb is running well, and you don't have any problems with your intake or exhaust manifolds leaking, I suggest you find a higher numeric gear ratio first. You're 225 might never chirp the tires with a 2.76 rear (my ported super sixed aspen won't), so you won't regret the purchase of a better rear. As D.I. said, a 3.23 would be fun for a street car, and higher only if you don't care about gas mileage. The super six intake and bigger exhaust gives 10 h.p. if you believe the spec book, and many people boast big mpg gains. You'll actually have more fun with a rear end swap. Just my 2 cent. |
