Hey guys I've been playing with one of my spare /6 elec distributer. I've replaced the heavy spring with a lighter one (but ends in a loop, as Doc always advices) and I welded a R15 govnor to make it about R9. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So now I have a total of 18~20 degrees mech advance, if I understood correctly what you were saying. My question is: do I have to add the vacuum unit to the total addition in order to know how much initial timing I can use? I have an old R2, a R2.5, a R5.5 and a R8.5 vacuum units... wich one should I use with this particular dist? Thanks in advance Juan |

You could use the 8.5 vacc. pod... the formula that MP used was 10 initial, 20 advance (mech), and 20 vacc... so I'd set the distributor to TDC, use a dial back timing light and a grease board/note pad, and have a buddy take notes on your mechanical advance until it stops advancing at 2-300 rpm intervals (watch the tach...go 800, 1000, 1200, 1400..etc...)...once you know you have 20 adv., try to get a '10' vacc pod, or you might even try the 8.5 to see what that does for you...hope the gas is good enough to get the 10 BTDC +20 more mech. + 20 more Vacc... at cruise you're looking for... so far your pics look muy bueno! -D.Idiot |
