I just got the Valiant back from the glass shop today and let me tell you I am not impressed! They screwed up the bottom seal placement so that water can roll right in from the cowl area between the wipers straight down through the dash and onto my radio!. It looks as if the window was not quite tall enough to fit in the whole window frame so they pushed on the seal anyway and glued her up. In the middle of the bottom, the inside edge of the trim doesn't even come close to fitting in the slot of the gasket (1/2 an inch away from the trim molding lip over half of the length). Anyone else find this problem with a new aftermarket windshield (PPG) or did I find a bad windshield? I am afraid to see what they will do to fix the problem. How many tubes of sealant will they try to squeeze into the lower channel? What should I tell them now? Some one please tell me I'm not crazy! |

This is a simple question. Does the job they did fit your expectation of form, fit, and function? If not, back it goes 'til it's done right. Be very clear with them what you expect. If they can't satisfy you that the job can be done right, look for another glass shop. Don't pay them a thin dime for a crappy job (ask the owner if he would be satisfied with the quality on his own car). Jerry |

I wonder if they tried to fit a hardtop windshield into a sedan? I know the dimensions are different, but I'm not sure how much, or in what areas, or if they are even close enough to try. I do know that I wouldn't put up with an installation like that. |

I had mine replaced last week on my 74 Scamp and it looks like it fits perfectly. The glass guy found a brand new factory windshield for $160. He installed the front new windshield and my old rear windshield for $220 total labor and glass. I had my own new gaskets I bought on line. If you want I can give you his number. You might consult him on the proper fit and glass for your car. Sounds like they used the wrong glass as someone else said. |

Here's the update: I brought the Signet back to the glass shop and they checked for leaks finding MANY (gee why didn't they check that in the first place?). This prompted them to seal it all up with what they call a zipper or some kind of sealant in a tube (black sticky stuff that is not silicone based). The gasket still looks deformed on the bottom side of the windshield but it all seals up nice and tight, no water. I did check the part # on the PPG site and it appears to be the correct windshield for the application. Basically, the new view in the Valiant is great and it doesn't leak. The only drawback is the gasket is a little weird on the bottom 6 inches at the cowl but I can live with it. Best of all, if it leaks again I take it back in and they fix it for free. Thanks for everyone's help, this board is awesome! |
