Well I picked up this car in December of 2008 form my Dad.

This Rust Belt machine has nothing unrotted or unrusted anywhere on the car.

This car has an undertininate amount of mileage on it. Maybe 150-300,000??

7/5/09
So far I am doing all the sheetmetal work welding, fabbing etc. Anything that is rotted that is not needed to go down the track is getting cut off the car and what's left is welded up. I am almost done with the sheetmetal work. I need to get another tank of C02 For the welder and I Am going to buy a floorpan segment at carlisle this weekend. I also Have one more quarter panel to re-attatch to the Wheelhouse.

Front suspension has been switched over to Big Bolt with Big Upper Ball joints using Volare Discs Calipers, rotors, Hoses etc. Lower Ball joint is 73-76 A body disc Brake Style.

Dash is stripped except for the frame.

Battery is moved to the trunk and Master Switch added.

Upcoming plans:

Fuel Cell

8 3/4" rear

Inboard Springs

LR Frame Reinforcement

Drivetrain Will happen over the Winter as Time and budget allow.

Hope to hit the track in Spring 2010.

Pics:

Front View. - It's worse than it looks!

Rear View.

Hopefully All this will be repalced by a 12 Second Drivetrain.

Right Quarter Rot.

Left Quarter Repair - Right Will look about the same! Black and gold for Pittsburgh!

More Rot

Fred Flintstone Style Floors - This is before I did any cutting Here!

Nice to see this 4 door '68 Valiant being saved and put to good use.....if the Dart is any indication of your work this one will turn out Great!
By the way I was at the junkyard on Friday looking around and what do I find...a '68 Valaint 4-door....black primer with blue interior and a/c with 225 slant 6.......but it was looking miserable....The grill was still gleaming but both sides were bent up and alot of the a/c stuff was gone and it looked like at some point it had one or more cars stacked on top of it...if I had more room I would have brought it home... Crying or Very sad .......nico

Well it (the Valiant)will never be shiny and When it gets wet I will not have to dry it or wipe it down or wax it like I do with the dart.

But yes the frame and chassis are going to get put to good use.

Rot shot 3 - If it's not there, it's not adding weight to the car!

Post subject: Rear Suspension Done! 7-22-09 (Wed Jul 22, 2009 11:16 am) Reply with quote

It took about a week, but I did the Spring relocation kit etc. and Finally got the Hard lines - Fuel / Rear brake ran to the back. The 8 3/4 is in there with a 4.30 Gear a spool and a pinion suubber.

Oh yeah, I have probably removed about 20# of the factory rust proofing so far.. and that's just on 1/2 the car. It's amazing waht a propane torch and a putty knife will do to old rustproofing.

Big bolt pattern in the back now.

That looks better than the 7.25 and I use stock springs a snubber and air shocks to control the launches. - Simple.

Left Rear Frame rail and Spring relocation - I had to to some major structural work on this rail.. It was really weak.

LR Inboard spring kit.

Swap meet Pinion snubber and Brand new rear brake line.

Yes I plan to build the engine and trans over the winter as the budget allows.

I am sourcing a new master cylinder now as I used one from a parts car and it's bad.

I also am getting all the little fittings and adapters togther to connect up the fuel cell and the Line lock.

I still need to attatch the LR wheel house and the LF floor pan. and add the Hurst Shifter and all the eletrics and gauges.

I have some verry Nice Lightweight Wheels and Tires I got off Romeo Furio In June 2009. I just dont have any pics of them on here yet.

It should be alot lighter than the dart!

OK, so my light '66 "Vart" vs. your light '68 Valiant. It's a date next year. I might get mine together by Bristol or Clay City, but not sure.

It's still known as Project V, just playin'. Think I'll slap the head on there tonight. Finished degreeing cam and checked valve-piston clearance last night.
