Eastern Race Schedule - CONFIRMED 2011 Event Dates

Fellow Slant Sixers,
We mostly decided on race dates for 2011 at the Eastern Banquet today (2/12/11) in Pigeon Forge.
We hope this will be a big growth year for Slant 6 racing east of the Mississippi! Several new cars are under construction and new drivers are priming their feet and eyes for competition and comaraderie...
May 21-22: Mason-Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown, MD. Points races on BOTH Saturday and Sunday. Camping allowed. Contact is Rick Covalt. COMPLETED - Winners Charlie Schmid on Sat and Lou Madsen on Sun.
June 4-5: Kearney Raceway Park in Kearney, NE. Points races Saturday, and Sunday. Contacts are Mike Jeffrey and Lou Madsen. Come one, come all from North America!! COMPLETED. Winner Mike Jeffrey on BOTH days!
July 22-23: Elk Creek Dragway in Elk Creek, VA (location - 20 min SE of the I77/I81 intersection). Points races Friday and Saturday nights. $1500+ purse. This one replaces our long running N. Wilkesboro, NC race due to track conflicts. Camping allowed Fri night. Ron Hamby contact/coordinator. CONFIRMED
August 5-6: Knoxville Dragway in Maynardville, TN. Points races Friday and Saturday nights. Gary and Meril Bruner contacts/coordinators. CONFIRMED
Sept 2-4: Mopar Thunder at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, TN. Points races on BOTH Saturday and Sunday, t'n't Fri eve. Brian Mimken contact/coordinator. CONFIRMED.
Oct 1-2: Mopar Southern Classic at Mountain Park Dragway in Clay City, KY. Points races BOTH Saturday and Sunday, t'n't Fri eve (30 SEP). Rob Simmons contact/coordinator. CONFIRMED.
As you might have inferred, we had a discussion about 2-day races, and pretty much all were in favor of making as many races as possible into 2 day competitions. We will try this out in 2011 and see how it works. The pacing of this schedule is really nice, with no races closer than 3 weeks apart.

I think the schedule looks good.
To Ron Hamby,
I think Ryan and I will try and come down to the Elk Creek race. Can you let us know if we can camp at the track. We would be coming on the cheap for sure. May even have 3 of us there! Just depends!

I am <1.5 hrs from Elk Creek and directly on your way. If you want to stay over on the way coming or going, you are certainly welcome. Any number of you can stay...

The new date for Elk Creek is CONFIRMED. The new date is July 22nd and 23rd. Please update your calendars. Camping is welcomed after the race Friday night.

| Due to some personal issues, I will be unable to coordinate a race at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, Ga. If any one would like to do this, I will pass on the track owners contact info. He is willing to do a slant six and/or Mopar race.

It is not one thing, but a number of lesser problems, that are eating up my time and money. At this point I don't know if I will be able to make any slant races this year, so I would rather have someone else take over on this race, at an early point.

| Road trip,,,Long beach to Eureka 680 miles to try for 1/4 records,July 14-15.From there I could just drive to Elk Creek for some 1/8th mile record attempts,,,July 22-23,,only 2860 miles,then back to Long beach,only anouther 2500 miles.Total 6040 miles for a couple 1/8th record trys.Wonder what just gas will cost getting 10 mpg.Wonder if my 94 180,000 mile 454 Suburban has that in it,plus I would bee doing this solo.Food lodgeing for 14 days roughly a$1000.Gas just over$2000,plus two weeks off work.Looks to bee close to $5000 to make some passes at a 1/8th mile track.That might get me a couple records.Hopefully I hurt the car before then so I cant go tru with this plan.Guzzi Mark
