83 D-150 Project

block,head, crank & rods are at Ed'd Machine shop in Morresville, Cylinders are rough bored, awaiting the pistons for the measure and hone.
OS valves are in the head, crank is polished,,,
tomorrow the tranny will get dropped off at Brewers at Ludlow Falls OH for an internal check-up. Got lucky on the delivery and return ,, the wife's family is from Greeville OH,, about 20 minutes from Brewer's, wife will drop it off tomorrow on the way to visit her mom.
interior is about stripped, took out the rear window today. This weekend plan to remove the remaining wiring, lights, rear bumper...
Then it will be ready to drag it over to Kenny's shop,,, will delay a bit on that as I am wanting the weather to break a bit before getting into the paint and body work.
So I may start on doing the brakes and re building the front end.

got the head back from the machine shop and worked with it today
1) made a construction paper duplicate of the head intake and exhaust face, and set that on the intake manifold, to see how the intake port opening align,,actually really close, looks like the out board intake runners are pulled in towards the center just a bit,, maybe a 1/32,, a little grinding will make those match better.
2) did not work to enlarge the head port runners, but went over them to smooth just a bit.
3) worked in the valve pocket to blend the transition to the larger seats, took the step off the back on the valve guide boss, made it a large filet.
4) spent some time narrowing the intake short side radius,,to check my work I pressed a short length of solder wire from the valve seat across the floor to the port opening,, when the radius transition looked smooth I traced that on paper and used that as a model to get them all about the same,,

| want to see "looking good", should have seen me after that little bit of porting work,,looked like a re run of the days when I was a laborer in the IH foundry cleaning room. I did wear a respirator,,,,

got the tranny back from Brewers
new input / out bearings, syncros, seals, lever mounting studs,
had them go through the shifter to
looks like new

and got the time penciled in at Kenny Johnson's body shop,, rolling chassy goes in the second week of Nov.
He said he would have it about a month, would be fun to get it back for Christmas!

| Nice truck, is yours a "Miser" also? I'm guessing not since it has the third brake light/cargo light on the back of the cab.

The 83 D-150 is a very basic truck, slant, a 833, short bed, manual steer, looks like when Dad picked it out he did get the side stripes and a 2bbl,,,, has a 3:21 rear axel, has carpet on the floor and a sliding back glass, not tinted, the cab vent package is the bottom end one, defrost-heat and the infamous ram-vents
the third brake light is one of the additions that I am putting on the D-150, that is not factory
I have heard of the Miser package, what does that consist of?

| Mine is the miser package.Option of 904 with lockup converter.Heavy duty front bearings though.
