I am in the process (my dad and I anyway) of restoring my:
1966 Dodge Dart 270 with 225ci Slant six.

We have just cleaned and painted the engine bay and the hood is next, but now I there are a few parts that I am missing and want to replace to complete the engine bay and hood restoration.
I am using friends computer to pictures are not available right now.

Here is what I need and am Having a real hard time finding:
1) Plugs for the holes where the A/C tubes would have gone. My car doesnt have air conditioning so I want to plug these holes with rubber grommets or plugs. What would they be called and who would have them?
2) Hood insulation. My hood has none, but I know it should. I dont even have any of the clips. What style clips were used and who offers good insulation kits?
3) Windshield wiper fluid hoses. My windshield wiper box, and motor are not even there, neither are the hoses to shoot that fluid at the windshield. Who would sell such things and what do I need to complete the resto?
4) Heater control valve. Mine is gone, I think the heater core went bad, because the previous owner just bypassed the core and mated the two lines together.
5) Blower motor for the A/C and heater. Mine DOES work, but it squeaks awful and no air comes from anywhere.

Please help.

Thanks.

Caesar

You're having trouble finding them because there were no such plugs used by the factory. Cars without A/C had no firewall holes for A/C lines. Rather, the firewall was dimpled at every hose hole location so that if that particular car was getting factory A/C, the necessary holes could be made accurately.

If it's got firewall holes for A/C lines, it had A/C at some point in its life!

Get appropriate plugs as free samples from www.caplugs.com

How d'you know? All cars had the holes in the hood bracing for the clips to hold hood pads, but only cars specifically ordered with factory undercoat got underhood pads. Jim's has them, but not sure if they've got one for a '66 Dart. I know Gary Goers has the '66 Dart underhood pad, as well as the tough-to-find hood-to-radiator-support seal.

What style clips were used
In '66 they still used the 1/2" x 1-1/2" (approx) metal clips. DI-787 from Jim's (link above).

'65-'67 wiper bottle is available from Year One and other sources. Pricy! The freestanding metal washer pump used through '67 is a difficult and expensive item to find in working, non-leaking condition. Unless you are trying for a no-expense-spared, 100-point show restoration (in which case your extra firewall holes are a big problem), you'd do better to install a '68-up A-body washer bottle, the one that has the pump mounted on the bottom of the tank. It'll bolt right onto the existing holes, and looks like it belongs there, and the pumps work better, last longer and are easier to find.

4) Heater control valve.
Only found on '65-'76 A-bodies with factory A/C! The original '65-'70 double-acting types are very hard to find in working condition. the '71-'76 single-acting/spring-loaded types are somewhat less difficult.

These motors are still generally available on the aftermarket, and I see 'em go by on eBay frequently. But...I thought you said your car didn't have A/C!

That was a wealth of information.

just so people know in the future I am not going for a bone stock restoration. Things on my car are a TAD custom, but all upgrades are still of the "old school" variety just barely newer than the car I drive.

So A/C holes means i had a/c, dont want it so it stays out. going to get plugs from that site.

Heater control valve, just going to connect the hoses directly to the core.

Windhield wiper can, will get something to work.

Hood insulation. to insulate or not to insulate? that is the question.

That is it i guess. cant wait to hear from you guys.

Last week, I asked for help with a missing body plug. At Dan's suggestion, I got on the Caplugs website and ordered a sample pack. You are allowed to select up to 10 different items. As it turned out, when my samples came (very quickly I might add), they included two samples of each item I asked for. So you actually get 20 pieces.

Make sure you accurately measure the hole in your firewall, then ask for samples of plugs in sizes that span a range across the size you measured, just in case. I measured the hole I wanted to plug as being 1-1/4", but the plug that fit was 1-3/8". Either my measurement was sloppy, or their tolerance is loose. Just get several sizes.

Go to this link http://www.caplugs.com/kits.asp . Start at the bottom of the page. Follow the steps over several pages to build your kit. You want their UNTHREADED, STRAIGHT plugs with numbers like BP 1-5/16".

Enjoy,
Jerry
