After some research on the quietest performance mufflers to replace the cheapy Thrush Turbos (crap!) that went on when my Dutra Duals were installed, I decided on a pair of Borla Pro XS mufflers. They're supposed to flow really well, and according to some, they're quieter than Dynomax Super Turbos. They ain't cheap, so it'll be a while before I get them installed, so I'll let everyone know then.

That is, if I can tolerate the Thrushes till then. Along with being obnoxiously loud, one has a broken baffle in it, so it sounds as ratty as the car looks...

(I realize an "H" pipe would probably help, too, but I don't want to add to the interference problems I'll have installing a T-5, if that ever happens.)

Good choice! You can't go wrong with a Borla. I am planning on using them when I get to the exhaust on mine, too. How do you like your Dutras?

It's a little tough to comment fairly on the Dutras alone, since I installed them at the same time as my Super Six, but it's very nice to actually hear my exhaust ( :) ). The muffler shop gave me grief over running two 2" pipes through the narrow spot at the bottom of the firewall, and even though they eventually made it work, it's still not ideal (but you get what you pay for). I've also sprung an exhaust leak at the flange for the Dutra manifold I've yet to fix, which may be coincidence or bad headpipe design.

I will say I did have to do a little grinding on the bottom of the exhaust flanges on the Dutra casting to make it seal flat against the cylinder head (there was interference with the block). With better tools, this would've been a non-issue, but I was dealing with a grinding wheel and a cordless drill with two nearly dead batteries, so it took a while... :)

But after having headers on a V8 car when I was a teen, Dutras are MUCH better, and worth every penny!
