i have been looking for a set of 198 rods for a while and have been having trouble finding them. i would like to eventually build a long rod 225 with 7.000" rods.

where would i find 7.000" rods in the aftermarket?

i am not looking for anything exotic but dependable like the drop forged rods that are already in there. no aluminum as i don't want to have to worry about clearance issues.

OK, something just doesnt sit right with me here, 7.000" rods (0.005" shorter than 198's, right?) would be a custom length rod for a slant six so how is it he can be offering these rods for $180 per set? Even $180 a set for the 198 rods seems like a pretty good bargain to me.

I'm pretty sure when people talk about «7" rods», they're actually referring to the 7.006" rods. At least, that's how I read the original message in this thread. Zedpapa...?

PAW lists them for $25 a piece. they are listed as stock replacements, so I don't know the quality or source of them.

Might want to call to confirm that

Just got off the phone with PAW. "No, sorry, we can only get 'em for the 225".

I have had 3 sets of them. First set I got from Doug, second set came out of a motor I parted out, and the last ones came from MIke Jeffrey.

I have not broken one yet, but I did knock the small ends out when we tried our steel on steel floating of the pins the first set. It did take almost 50,000 street miles and 1500 passes though.

according to my 1970 service manual the spec is 6.998" to 7.002". misprint? either way i'm shooting for a 7" rod. $180 sounds way reasonable. i won't complain though.

i am not interested in full out race rods. just something that will live with a mild build. i am thinking of trying to get a good 250 hp out of my slant NA with an occasional shot of nitrous.

dang! Thought I was helping out there.

Its still has them listed in the newest catalog too, wonder if they just think they are all the same? they are listed in the new chrysler paw catalog with thier own part number and everything. seems a bit odd, thats too bad, and pretty misleading I guess

Maybe worth another call to PAW armed with that P/N from their catalogue. It's possible the guy I happened to get on the phone wasn't interested in helping out.

Talk to a local shop on what engine rebuilders they use. Jasper engines is just one of them. The big outfits should have them. I got a set through my shop for 120 bucks resized and ready to run and an extra $60 for ARP studs installed.
