Hello all. Just recievied all my parts back from the machine shop, cam, crank, bearings and such.... I have the torque for the rods @ 45 lbs, the main bearing caps @ 85 lbs, but what is the ..... I forget what it is called, the spacing between the crank and the blocks, or does it just float back and forth......? does this make sence?

It doesn't quite make sense to me.... sorry.

I can kinda guess- are you talking about what prevents the crankshaft from sliding fore/aft in the main bearings? One of the main bearings should have a "flange" that acts as a thrust bearing, and the allowable amount that the crank can move fore/aft is called "Crankshaft End Play" and should be in the specification table for the engine in the service manual.

Or are you talking about the actual gap between the bearings and the crank journals? That should be measured with Plastigauge (or a micrometer). You should find those specs under "Main bearing Clearance" and "Rod Bearing Clearance" in the FSM.

Yes that was what I ment, exactly.....and I do not have the FSM (factory service manual), so I need to pick one of those up somewhere, and where would I get one.......Clifton, Haynes? Do you have that Info....?
63 lowered, shaved and being rebuilt......

For a 65 (should be same for 63)

End play .002-.007" #3 bearing

Main & Rod Bearing clearance .0005 - .0015"

Rod Bearing side clearance .006 - .012"
