I'm finally getting around to replacing the Cylinder head on my 65 Sweptline pickup and suddenly the market for rebuilt heads seems to have dried up, used to be a ton of sources for them on Ebay, they've vanished...

I did find a recently rebuilt head off an 87 Van with hydraulic set-up. If I use this head, my original mechanical Lifter/rocker set-up that's on the truck I should be OK, right? I believe there is an issue with the rear rocker bolt hole in the head, and that is my only question at this point. Do I need to find the bolt for an 87 rocker set-up, or will the rear bolt from my mechanical set-up work? I recall reading somewhere that the rear bolt will create oiling issues if it is not the right one.

I also will need a different valve cover and gasket which should be no problem to procure.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Kevin

The rear rocker shaft hold down bolt is different for the 80 and up hyd. head. This bolt has a step and a smaller thread. (5 / 16 - 18 unc)

With the correct bolt, (and push rods) the adjustable (mechanical) rocker arm shaft can be mounted.

Still working on this, found this pic of a hydraulic rocker assy. and it would appear that the rear bolt is not only longer than the others , it is also narrower?

Thanks Doug, so just to be certain, when you say the proper push rods, you mean the ones that are already on the truck..which are for a 225 with mechanical lifters and mechanical rocker assy.?

Thanks
