I have an '81 LUV 4-speed transmission. Is it of any use to a /6er?

Does the bell housing come off? Also, there are much, much easier ways to get a 4 speed behind a /6. I wouldn't bother with any adapting unless it got me 5 forward gears.

No.

The thing is, there's no easier way to get a 4-speed than to already have one. :) Whether I messed with it would more along the lines of, was it worth having in the Luv it came in. If not, it definitely wouldn't be worth putting in anything else. It would also be interesting to know if it was ever tried.

Thanks

IIRC the trans only fits the ch@vy luv and isu%u pup trucks.

most of these trucks are rusted out, crushed, or bebeensmallblocked"

I woulwouldntn want to think about finding trans parts.

IIRC back in the day the engines let go ( alunimum, cracking and warping)
before the trans had a chance to get far past the break in.

I think the cost to "make it fit" would be the biggest downside

but to do it, make it work, then see the looks on peoples faces .... priceless

While you're harvesting parts from the LUV, take a look at that 4.something rear back there ... I doubt it's very strong, but ...

Strong? It's way too narrow. (Some people call it a truck. :!: )

But it got 24 MPG until the emissions people ran me off the road. What's the big deal? I was only putting out 6 times the maximum of carbon monoxide! (I guess they were afraid I'd be assisting people who wanted to commit suicide.)

Thanks

Wait a minute. I think I just figured out what you meant about 4.something. Geese, and it STILL can't pull a hat off your head?

So, Ross, Your board nickname is now "Kervorkian". And where did you get the Kewl pinto (horse, not ford) paint job on yer hood? Sorry i'm no help on your trans or rear, I'm here to learn, too.
