 Post subject: cant drain block

after three years i finally thought i would try and drain the block. when i got the bolt out i got nothing i tried to poke a screwdriver in there but i didnt want to go to damage someting.
so what can i do to get the gunk out?

Keep scraping.... you can also pull out a freeze plug and have at it from the other side, or water pump and go in from the front.

As long as your not using a hammer and chisel then you'll be ok.

You won't hurt anything poking a screwdriver around inside the drain hole. If you need to, use an ice pick to make a small hole in the crud, than finish off with a flat screwdriver to scrape around. After you get it drained, put in a brass petcock valve in place of the bolt to make future draining faster.
