Ok so here's the situation. Monday on my way to my Softball game the car just stalls. I pop the hood wiggle a few wires and it starts back up. Wednesday I am the field going down the driveway and it stalls again. I pop the hood and wiggle a few wires and it starts and dies as soon as the hood closes, it does this twice. both times I go back after the game and it starts right up and I go home. Today I decide to replace the GM HEI module since it was increadibly hot both times it stalled out on me. I figured it was cutting out due to excessive heat.
Well I made up all new wires and the package the wire came in says to use blue connectors. Well I get it all done and put the distributer back in and everything connected and both of the butt connectors going to the distributer had come appart Now I dont know for sure which is which. I replace them both with red butt connectors and put everything back together. Now it won't start I switch the wires still nothing.
Now the battery is almost dead and I am getting no spark. I have tried a second coil that I have in the garage still no spark.
Could there be somthing in the distributer that went bad?

Are you absolutely sure that the HEI unit is still grounded?

Try swapping the polarity of the distributor-to-module wires.

Wow, that's why I don't like HEI's...

could it be an ignition issue and you've been chasing around driveability problems on your holley...

I'd get a cheap used decent MSD 6 or 6AL box.

Why, 'cause they don't work when hooked up incorrectly or when a component's faulty?

The new module was faulty  . I put the spare i carry in my tool box in after checking everything else and then had spark. I got it running, reset the timing then swapped the new module in and again no spark. I took it back and got my money back. only JY modules for me. 8)
I did check my reluctor to pickup space and found it to be over twice what it should be.
Thanks for all your suggestions.

Nah... I don't wanna fight with you, BUT.... I don't think those are dependable like the original EI (even with its fails) neither has the "hotter" spark as other options. After you posted the HEI stuff I discovered that 80% of the "new" EI cars down here had that (even some dodge products like the dodge 1500 -hillman avenger) and they cost peanuts (US$10 or less per piece) but they are... let's say... "sensitive"... too much units becoming faulty or not even working out of the box. So you can carry plenty of those if you consider the price, but you need more than one for finishing a 200 mile trip? no thanks

Ok you are babbling incoherently argentena.
I wanted to replace it with a new unit because I wanted a new unit. I am not even sure it was the problem. I have no idea how long the one I was using was in the previous car. I am now using that one as my back up, it still works. As for not giving you a hotter spark, you couldn't be more WRONG. Swapping to GM HEI module is a huge improvement over a points system and it is a much easier swap than doing a MOPAR conversion.

I won't knock the HEI, but I don't think it's a whole lot different than the mopar conversion in terms of easy. I just like the idea of lifting the hood of a mopar and seeing a mopar style system. Anything is better than those old points and hotter spark sounds like a good deal.

As for quality of replacement parts, I think it's ALL being shipped from the same crummy 3rd world factory with the same chances of getting junk out of a new parts box.

Always carry a spare and never trust a 'new' part to be 'known good'

hotter then points? sure. Hotter than mopar EI? Mmmhhh... don't buy it.

I really don't think so. But hey (or HEI) it's YOUR car. If you're happy...

'Tis true. GM HEI is a higher-performance system than Mopar EI.

Once heard a wise man say "ain't no thing as HOT spark modules. Given certain compression and certain plug gap, the voltage and current needed for jumping that gap is always the same". He said that while rebating my MSD box. Now he appears to be going again his principle saying that HEI is HOTTER than mopar EI.

Not quite -- the HEI system is a higher-capacity system. This discussion doesn't include factors like how much voltage is needed to make the spark jump the gap (which doesn't change according to ignition system installed).

Take a look at this post.
