Post subject: Which ATF for A904?
PostPosted: Mon Oct 08, 2001 3:51 pm
Which transmission fluid should I use? My '64 904 just got back from a rebuild and I've almost got her reinstalled in my daily driver /6 '64 Valiant. The book calls for Type A (still available), the instructions with the transmission say Dexron II for all Chrysler transmissions, and Dexron III was all I saw at the two parts stores I checked.

I have used only type F in mine since I rebuilt it
4 years ago. The Dextron will not have as high a co-efficient of friction as the type F and you will get a smoother shift out of it, but using type F you will get a little bit more of a snap out of the shifts. the best part is if you don't like the way either one performs just change the fluid.

You can use Dextron III from the parts stores, or Type F. Fopar is right about the trends.

I used some B&M high performance stuff in my Diesel truck which gave me a nice firm shift. Its blue in color and seems thinner than the red stuff we all are used to. I dont know if it is any good in a Torque Flight. Anyone have any experience with this stuff??

Trick Shift is basically Type F fluid with blue dye instead of red.
