Hi all,

I am gearing up for my transmission swap. I would like to get another crossmember for hacking up. Are the early A body and late A body crossmembers interchangable? I am guessing not, due to the change in width, but it would simplify the search considerably.

Thanks,

Greg

hey man

I think that up to '72 (or '67??) all transmission crossmembers are the same (without distinction on 3 on the tree, auto or manual 4 speeds)

just my 2 cents worth comment

In A-bodies, the '67-up crossmembers do not interchange with the '62-'66 units. Pretty sure you can put a '73-'76 "spool mount" crossmember directly in place of a '67-'72 "block mount" crossmember, but the '67+ units are wider and have differently-spaced holes than the early units. Fairly certain '60-'61 units can be replaced by '62-'66, but haven't verified.

OK there's m,y confussion. Our A-bodies did come in 2 flavours only: pre-67 and post. My car is post 67 and all trans crossmembers interchange. All Kmembers do interchange as you say, dan.

You can swap the spool mount in place of the block mounts. I did it on my 70, swaps right out.
