Hey Reed-- just put a bug in the owner's ear-- you' ll get a call-- or better yet-- his wife's ear. Besides this will give you time to sell your van.

Yeah, I think I am going to call him back and tell him that if he ever decides tosell it give me a call. you just don't see too many of these fine old boats anymore. What style, what character! It makes all the new egg cars just look like crap (well, more than they already do anyway).

Heh heh. I called him back and left my name. I spoke to his wife first and she sounded like she was very happy to have someone call about the car. I left my name and number with the guy in case he changes his mind.

I can just hear the discussion now-
"You promised me you were going to sell that heap!"

"I know honey, but it is a really neat rare car. You jun't don't see them any more."

"I don't care! I've seen that one on our lawn for the past four years! If want any more project cars you have to get rid of that one."

"Okay okay. I just can't let this one go because it is so cool."

"Its a big old pile of junk! You like ALL old cars but you can't have them all!"

"But, honey...."

Yes, a very familiar conversation.... I am sure most of us have been involved in one like that

FYI: J.C.Whitney lists an alternator that looks like that generator and drops in; ~$450 I think.

I'm pretty sure JCW does not offer an alternator that sits on the factory slant-6 generator brackets. I'm also quite certain that there's no alternator suitable for the intended application that is worth $450.

Uh, yeah. If I was going to spend $450 on an alterntor (which I am NOT) I woul go to a junkyard, buy the complete dual field alternator charging system out of a Mopar product for $50, then go get the housing polished and plated in solid gold.

I have three alternators sitting in my garage right now....

Its amazing that this car could weigh so little. The unitbody must be at the heart of it.

Ive always loved the foward look cars since I was a kid and saw the Christine movie. I had a 58 Chrysler Windsor 2 door hardtop once, but I dont think a slant 6 could have moved it, it weighed 4500 lbs! It had the oddball one year only 354 polyspherical V8 in it . The sheetmetal, glass, chrome, and even most of the interior was in impeccable condition, and Im still kicking myself for having sold it.

I have spent the last week scouring on-line classifieds and junkyards and haven't turned up a single other belvedere or savoy withing my price range. Add to that a really tight budget and I am going to hold off on the new project for now....

I have a 60 Savoy (slant 6, 3 on the tree) that is my daily driver. Keep looking, it's totally worth it.

ps - the picture at the beginning of this thread is a '57...their slogan was "suddenly it's 1960" leading to a bunch of ads and pictures and such of '57 Plymouths being misrepresented as '60s.

Yep. The "forward look" exner cars were some of the best looking cars ever designed. And their price tags confirm it.
