i have a 65 valiant with a 6. i am having trouble with rocker arm geometry. in my head i have 318 valves(intake 1.78and4.98,exhaust 1.5and4.99) and i was wondering if any one knew where to get rocker stand shims.

Hate to say that small block Mopar valves are way to long for the SL6. (The stock height for the SL6 valves are 4.774 In. & 4.796 Ex.)
You are .200+ longer then stock, rocker shaft shims can't take-up this much difference.
Summit, PAW, Mopar Performance & Rocker Arm Specialists all sell the shims but use that money to buy some different valves.

the valves are in the head already and it has been run. Will this affect the way that my car runs? I have a valve grinder and i can grind a .100 off the stem and maybe use the rocker stand shims. Will that solve the problem of the geometry. The car ran a 15.28 but then converter broke apart on the inside about a week later.

the motor is bored .040 over and the crank is .010,.010, the cam is mp 528, mp dbbl roller chain, a high vloume oil pump, the block is milled a .105, and the head a .105, the head is fully ported and polished with the 318 valves, stock rocker arms, it has split headers and and offy intake with a holley 750, the ignition is a msd 6a triggered by a mallory dual point. The trans is pro trans 904 with a trans brake and a 10 inch A-1 converter about 2500 stall. In the rear I have a 8 34 with 3.91s and the tires are bf goodrich radial ta 235/60/14. the car ran a 15.28 with out using the transbrake. right now i am in the process of trying to get the best weight transfer possible, i am going to drag shocks all the way around and losing a leaf in the back, and i am putting the battery in the trunk. All of this is so i can get a good launch with the transbrake and maybe some traction. I am also currently installing a nos foger. i hope to maybe get into the 13s with the nos.

You can mill the stands for the rocker shaft flat. then use alum. clamps/stands to hold the shaft. Then you can use flat shim and shim to any hight. Cox Bros. Performance can help you with the stands, also a new shaft and roller rockers if you want them.

OK.... I see we are well underway with this Hi-Po SL6 and that you have some cam lift to deal with.
You can do what you suggested, just take a big hunk off the stem tip to get the geometery better.
The thing to watch is that you can get under the "surface hardness" which will cause tip gulling over time and high spring pressures. Installing some lash caps will prevent this but it also brings back some of the lenght you are trying to get rid of.

Will's point about machining-off the tops of the stands to a flat and using specially made "saddles" is a good one. This give you the ability to adjust the contact geometery to prefection.

Long term, swap-over to some Big Block Mopar valves. These are shorter in length (4.880) and set-up to use taller installed height Valve Springs. This prevents coil bind with the high lift cams.
