Hey all. I've got a 74 Dart Custom with the 225 Six (Hence the name) and I've got a hankerin' for some boost. I got out of the FWD Turbo Dodge game, and I figured why not jump right back in, but with RWD and a better lookin' car to boot? Anyway, I've read over the Turbo article on the main page and I've got the basics, but I could use some examples. When it comes to most things, I can read the instructions and go go go, but with this, I'd like to see some pictures of Turbo Slant Sixes and get an even better idea of what I'm getting myself into. So anything you can provide would be great. I'll take links to old threads about this very thing (Which I'm sure there are plenty of, but bear with me, please), websites for Turbo sixes, what ever you have. Thanks alot, again.

I've gathered the turbo threads together in an article already, one a lot longer than the original article. The administrators have a copy of it right now. It should be in the article section soon.

I'm building up a turbo slant six myself. There are a lot of details that I've collected on my blog. It used to be running with a carburetor, but didn't run very well so I have opted to convert it to EFI.

Mine uses the same manifold and turbo as the one in Wayne's article (the exact same manifold and turbo, in fact) but I have been trying to build a custom fuel injection system using Megasquirt. It's been a very long, drawn out process, but I think I'm getting very close to finished. My goal is to have it able to run and drive by the end of August.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping to have everything I need together by the end of Summer so I can start working in the fall, when it cools off.

It would be more impressive to clean up that engine bay.

Some of us are more concerned with how the car runs than how it looks, even under the hood.

As an old FWD Turbo owner myself, I am considering turboing the Scamp as well. It doesn't seem too hard, I think?

Matt Cramer - Can you tell my why you had issue's with the carb setup??

I am looking for some decent 1/4 mile times. Nothing crazy, just a car that will easily run high 13's. Is this feasible on about $1500 cash??

Thanks.

Getting the Carb setup for blow-thu is the hardest part about going turbo.

If you go to TurboMustangs.com you will find a section for Blow-Thu carb setups & somewhere is a link about how to modify the holley for a turbo in that site. This site had the most turbo info I have found anywhere. Anyway you can even buy a carb setup already but they are pricey. As far as how much does it cost. It depends on how much HP you want. You can easly spend $2000.00 in fuel system along, but you can also do the whole thing for $500.00 including the turbo. It depends on what you will seatle for & what you can find used. But with $1500 you could put a fair system togather that could make 400 to 500 HP or and easy 300 HP on 10# of boost. Look at the ricers and you will see what turbo will make how much power. Engine size dont have a whole lot to do with the HP, it will just spool quicker(alot quicker) than the ricer(honda guys) for these HP levels. The trick is to match up just the right turbo & it will be fun to drive with no lag & make very good HP also.

Short version - it seems someone with professional tools but little knowledge of Holleys had tried to rework it. They'd done all sorts of things that experts would say never to do, such as putting mechanical secondaries on a single pumper carb. I tried to fix it up, but I didn't know that much more about Holleys and did not have the right parts available.

Fixed jets don't really seem to be the best way to go for a blow through turbo. The jet size you'll need will increase as the boost increases, then go back down when you get off the throttle. If I were to try a carb again, I'd probably look into an Edelbrock or other one that uses metering rods. Although I'm not sure how much that would help.

On your budget, I'd probably try a TBI setup. But if you're better at tuning carbs than I am - which isn't too hard to be - you may get it working with a carb.

Thanks all! Right now I have a Migthy Demon 650 Carb with a box of jets. I will more than likely be using a 50 trim Garrett turbo with a Grainger manual boost controller. I do have a pretty decent knowledge of Dodge Turbos and with the turbo manifold being sold here on this site, I think I can get this sucker to work!

As for rearend, do you think the stock rear will work, or do I have to beef it up with an 8 1/4 or 8 3/4?

I will also be putting in a 727 trans with shift kit.

Just don't want to be hacking the car. It is truely a beautiful, clean as can be Scamp.

The demon will be great, and go to the site I listed & you will find how to tune the carb & make it spot on with a/f. If you want to can send it to CSU carbs & they will mod it & "it work work" exactly the way you need it to. There has been a lot of advancment in Blo-Thu carb setup.

At one time every one was saying Blo-Thu dont work, but go read all the threads on the ones that do.

http://www.turbomustangs.com/smf/index. ... ic=63145.0

Check out these links and you will find what you need to know about modding the Demon or the Holley for Blo-Thu or just letting CSU mod you carb for you. The last link is a thread where they are modding the Vent tubes and making even better results.
