i wanna put a b&m shifter in my 72 duster with a console shifter can i simply pull the shifter out and adapt he b&m shifter to rod that is already there

I'm assuming an auto trans here... most aftermarket shifters are cable operated.

Nope all B&M shifters I have done has a cable and a transmission lever that B& M supplys with the shifter that replaces the stock transmision lever you must use it instead of the stock transmision lever on the trans. But there could be something special out there i doint know about. Thanks Ron Parker. :D

I have seen many people use a B&M or Hurst shifter and use the stock console around it. :shock:

Thats what i want to do in my 65 Baracuda is put in a later 904 trans and a B&M pro ratchet shifter and put the orignal shift console over it looks like it can be done. Thanks Ron Parker :D

ok so what would i do when going from a collumn to floor shift without having to find a collumn out of a floor shift car?

Well, the simplest thing to do would be to get a shifter with its own mini console with gear indicator. They are all cable operated so you will simply remove the factory linkage between the lower end of the column and the transmission. Also remove the shifter lever from the column and you're good to go. If you don't like the look of the column with the vestiges of the old shifter then you'll have to swap the column for one from a floor shift car.

Make sure you get a shifter with a reverse lockout.

You'll have to defeat the shifter - ignition interlock and steering wheel lock mechanism.
