The shipping WOULD be free if they're just gonna email it to you. Hmmmm.

I've got a '71 Dart 225, three speed manual with the (aforementioned, and much maligned) stock Holley 1920. Rebuilt the carb myself and she ran pretty good for the past 4 months.

Suddenly, the old girl started stalling when I let off the gas. Starts and idles clean, just died at stoplights. Bumpstarted her home and there she sits.

I searched the archives and the dashpot looks like a likely suspect.

I'll look around for a replacement.

Any other suggestions?

Hi, ThePeoplesCar. Will you please edit your post (use the "Edit" button) to use the short eBay link rather than the long one for the auction you're pointing to:

Thanks. Ebay's long links screw up the page view for many browsers.

There's nothing in that manual that's not in the factory and general theory manuals, which are a better deal because you get a great deal more information and the specs that apply to your particular variant of the carburetor (and rest of the car!).

The 1920 is a decent carb design; not sure who's been maligning it for you. After awhile, they get "used up" and can no longer be successfully rebuilt. And, like all carburetors, they get ruined by the "factory remanufacturing" process. But, if your car was running fine for months after your rebuild, it doesn't sound like yours is ready for the scrap heap yet.

Some 1920s on cars with manual transmissions did have dashpots, but most did not. Certainly you should check the dashpot operation and adjustment, but if your car is dying at curb idle, it is likely that your curb idle adjustment screw has backed off or fallen out, and is in need of adjustment. Other possible causes include vacuum leaks (disconnected, split, misrouted or broken vacuum hoses, torn power valve diaphragm), PCV problems (PCV valve and grommet, PCV hoses, crankcase breather filter) and improper idle mixture adjustment.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to spend some quality time with her tomorrow.
