Have 1983 Dodge 150. After driving 20 miles what appears to be valve clatter develops. It never happens at low speed around town-only on the highway. Sometimes but not always it will dissapear if its shut off and then restarted. Please help its my baby!!!!

That '83 engine has hydraulic lifters which are fed their oil via a circuitous and lengthy path. It is probable that a careful engine cleanout will clean things up enough to restore proper oil flow to the lifters.

Could be that it's an exhaust leak. A leak can sound like a valve or lifter tap.
Use a peice of hose like a stethoscope to locate the tapping noise. A lifter will be more noticeable on the right side of the motor, a few inches below the head. A exh leak can be anywhere around the exh.
