Looking for a 2 into 1 muffler. Dual 2" to single 3" out. I am trying to avoid the Y-pipe. I ve looked through some books and found a 3" to dual out muffler. Do you think this muffler could be used in reverse? I am shooting for queit but still relitivly high flow. Maybe a muffler off a smaller diesel application.
A lot of the books just show a referance picture of the setup but no pipe sizes. Going and pulling them off the shelf is very time consuming and not productive.
On a side note- Do you think a custom muffler shop will be able to fit two 2" pipes down the driverside to the muffler or should I just drop this idea and use the Y-pipe just before the firewall?
In conclusion:
1.What app. has this muffler (2x2"-1x3")?
2. Can one flow a muffler backwards?
3. Will two 2" pipes fit down the side of the trans?
4. If no to all, where to find a 2x2"-1x3" Y-pipe?

i think i remember seeing a muffler similar to those specs on a chevey truck. i'm sure you can run a muffler backwards but it probaly won't sound the same or flow as good. as far as fitting two pipes down the side of the trans, probably can, one just may hang down more than the other. won't know until you try. also depend on what trans is in the vehicle.

i had a shop build the exhaust on my car and they made a Y pipe that was right next to the clutch linkage. it was 2" off the headers and went to 2 1/2" at a connector i had them put in at the t-bar crossmember. that goes to a flowmaster 40 series muffler and then to the bumper. sounds great and a lot of people think i have a small block, which i do, sort of.

Hello,
Found a couple y-pipes for you on e-bay.

330019396236

The second #(Magnaflow) looks like it would work excellent.Plus it is a killer deal.Msrp is 66.56.You take it home for 26.98 + free shipping.

It sounds like you are thinking about a 3" pipe after the muffler. To BIG.
2.25"-2.50" is the ticket.

Flowing a muffler backwards doesn't sound like a good idea.

I use a Flowmaster 40 series muffler.Loud for some,I like the throaty sound of it.

There are quieter mufflers, you need to decide what you want to do(Daily driver, street car, race car).

Ps:The y-pipe goes just after the fire wall.

Good luck

Isn't putting the Y-pipe after the fire wall right in the middle of the trans linkages? Isn't the Y-pipe closer to the engine supossto help in the torque department?

Thats a good question,
I can only tell you what I have experinced. The Y on my car starts right where the transmission mout is.There is a little bend in the trans mount where the Y tucks in nicely.

There definately is a science in the lenghth of the headers.Im sure others will chime in for you.

All in All I am very happy with my set up.Sounds like a sprint car.
