 Post subject: Air injection pump???
PostPosted: Mon Aug 21, 2006 6:51 pm
I have just replaced my slant 6 with a fresh slant. It has all new internal parts. The engine was put in and reassembled with no problems. I had it running in no time. It runs a little rough. Is this because of the friction of new parts? Is that normal? I also originally thought i had an exhaust leak on the manifold but under closer inspection i noticed that the hole for the tube assembly for an air injection pump is open. As i do not have an air injection pump what do I do? Does the hole need to be closed? Please help me I'm missing driving my car already. Thank you for your help.

I guess you are talking about in the exhaust manifold. Yea find a block plug that will fit & screw them in & block them off. It could be causing it to run a little rough also like this. The engine being new shouldnt cause rough running because the stuff being new, but there may be some tuning that needs done or Rocker arms ajusted. But fix the holes first & see how it acts.

I plugged the hole by making a block off out of a piece of aluminum. used a little RTV and bolted it on. The hole is at the back of the head.

The air injection port is in the cylinder head, not the exhaust manifold. There's a factory blockoff plate available for it, P/N 3751 249, and gasket 4275 834 (though the gasket comes with any decent-quality manifold gasket set). The pipe-plug method works, too, but requires tapping. New engines do not run rough 'cause they're new, they run rough 'cause something's wrong!
