Has anyone been able to swap that mount without actually pulling the motor out of the car? Last night I tried and came close, but I couldn't get the old mount out.

Yep, this can be done in that car. The trick is to use a floor jack and piece of wood under the oil pan to lift the engine. Just leave the driver's side mount installed; the engine will tilt upward away from the passenger side mount as it is lifted, providing the clearance needed to swap the mount.

hello I just registered to ask this question, I ve been trying to get the same motor mount in for days now and have been looking at engine hoists but my wife said we couldnt afford one. Anyway, I got the drivers side mount in finally after taking that bracket off that bolts to the block and then finaggeling it around until it lined up again. When jacking up the car, with the drivers side mount attached does it matter where the jack and board go, in the front or in the back of the oil pan?

Put the board lengthwise under the pan closer to the passenger side so when you lift your jack the engine swings up on the passenger side rather than trying to lift the whole engine. You only need enough to take the weight off and provide a little wiggle room.

Where did you find the driver's side mount? They are harder to find than the passenger side.

thanks for getting back, i ve actually got an 81 d150 pickup and I ordered the mounts from advance auto parts. They look like rubber sandwiches. (made in india)
Does it matter if I jack the motor up from the rear or the front part of the oil pan?

Yea, the Indian ones. That's what I got for my drivers side. Advance didn't list the drivers side but they had the passenger side. Go figure. This was about a year ago so I guess they may now list them, or your truck mounts are different than my Valiant? Why not lift from the middle of the pan, or maybe it is also different than the car oil pan? I'm sure the truck slanters know.

on my truck its the same part. theres a big steel crossmember thing that
disects just below the oil pan, thats why I asked front or back. Its just an
old truck but I see no reason why it couldnt last indefinetely..not the prettiest thing on wheels by any stretch of the imagination, but thetres not that many of these old truckls around anymore. comes in handy for going to lowes and fetching firewood. plus another positive attribute...the wife hates driving it, says its embarresing.

I got both mounts from the Paddock. I forgot the part numbers, but I think they're not too hard to find on the website.

Schumacher also has both mounts for 63-66 A bodies. I cheated when I changed mine and used a lift and a transmission jack. I can only claim age and infirmity. The passenger side mount is a lot easier to change if you unbolt the bracket from the block and wiggle it and the old mount out as a unit.
