When I tried to open the vent door on the Heater box, the anchor points let go. Fiberglass + Time = Brittle.

Here's a shot of the Box after doing some fiberglass repair.

I'll wait till it's fully cured before drilling it for the door bolts. Originally the door hinge was riveted.

The hinge had rusted and the door has to be open to access the hangar. The whole purpose of the evolution was to replace the heater core.

Plenty left to do! Back at it. :D

Just did the exact same thing three weeks ago. Extra work was frustrating but took the opportunity to clean up several things with the heater box. Only trouble we had was replacing the gasket at the top of the box where it goes into the vent intake.

How'd you wind up doing it? Me, I bought 1"-square foam weatherstripping from the hardware store, cut it to length and glued the ends together to form a round gasket of the correct dimensions. Gary Goers sells a one-piece gasket, if I'm not mistaken.

We used a rubber kneeling pad we bought at Home Depot in the garden section and carefully cut a circle out of it. About $2 and we have leftover for other uses. Don't think anyone will care that it's green.

last time I had the box out to access the fan I made a new gasket out of the gray camper tape stuff. Similar to how Dan did it.

My gasket was still in great shape, so I re-used it this time.

The box is all back together, but I got the wrong size defroster hose. What size is that stuff anyway? 2 1/2"?

CJ

Found it. 2 1/2"

The stock "coil" heater hoses on the late cars are actually "tapered" (small opening on the heater box). I've used the generic stuff and added a small wrap of duct tape to make it work...wish they still made the stock tubes (but not with paper wrap).

Year One P/N DVAB61 claims to be a pair of reproduction defogger duct hoses for '66 A-bodies, while DVA61 claims to be a pair of repro defogger duct hoses for '67-'76 A-bodies. I checked the '64 and '65 FPCs, and they show the same P/Ns for the defogger duct hoses as '66, so the DVAB61 should be the right hoses for a '63-'66 A-body.

Gaaaaahh! I just got all the Duct Tape goo off of there!

I take it the Heater Box department didn't send memo's to the Defroster Duct Division.

Why don't we have an Emoticon banging it's head on the driveway? :?

Edit: All done. I'm ready for my guest appearance on Red-Green.
