Hello everyone,

I have a mildly modified slant and I am looking for some tuning advice. My car runs OK, but I think it can run much better. It seems to accelerate well on the highway, but seems sluggish from a standstill. My car turned better times at the drag strip when I had the Super Six setip installed.

My setup (car = 1965 Valiant 200, 170 C.I slant):

Mopar Performance camshaft (244 duration, 436 lift)
Clifford 4-BBL intake
Holley 4160 390 CFM carb (stock settings)
Clifford 2-piece shorty headers
2 1/4 exhaust all the way back
Stock cylinder head
Stock rear-end (2:76 I believe)
Should I change jetting/power valve/?? on carb?
Should I the adjust timing?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I'd look at two "fronts": for that carb is too low geared or for that gearing is too much carburetion.

With a stock head on a 170 and a basically stock cam you are way over carbureted. It simply can not handle all those CFM's. With that carb you would not want your seconaries to ever open.

I agree that new gears would help me out from a standstill....thats pretty obvious. I have read that jetting the carb with #49 and #52 jets is the best general purpose setting with the setup that I have. The car does run pretty rich with the settings I currently have. Should some head work be done to increase air flow?

No, you need to get a 2-barrel. You are seriously overcarbed for that mild of a buildup.

I think a Super six would work well for your application.
