I just bought a CV230 Saturday morning from Baxter's here in Salem, I guess I got the last one from their Portland Warehouse, you might try them as Carquest here seems to not wholly support our era of car all the time...

I've been to Baxter's, they weren't any help at all. Just like everybody else. I have one coming I bought off of ebay, and I'm going to pick up a whole extra super six set up off of a 77 van. I guess I have realized through this how beneficial that collection of a million extra parts can be....

Dan, I disagree with this. I have seen this posted, before, and couldn't visualize it, so didn't want to call anyone out about it. Tonight I removed a valve body from a trans, and took a close look. Tried to get the lever to miss the valve. The only way that can happen, is if the "E" clip on the kickdown lever shaft is removed. Then the shaft can drop, and the internal lever can miss the valve. Thing is, even if the "E" clip were missing, the shaft still couldn't drop, if the external kickdown lever was still on the shaft.
*Shrug* Seen it happen too many times for it to be "impossible". Perhaps some years didn't have the E-clip, maybe it was added to prevent this problem. Remember, most 2bbl conversions do involve removing the external kickdown lever!

I'm no expert like some on this site, so maybe I am wrong on this, but I just went through this with my conversion. I adjusted the rod all the way forward as far as it would go, but the rod still wasn't long enough (only by about 1/2 inch, I didn't get the trans lever with my kickdown package) to "kick down" when the engine was lugging on hills and shift at higher speeds. It also was shifting soft, almost slipping?. I just bent the rod slightly at each bend to give it the extra length. Now the trans kicks down when it should, and it shifts at much higher speeds, It acually works great.

BTW, before I did this, I dropped the trans pan and made sure the lever was pushing the button when the lever was pushed back.

There is an ongoing controversy about the slant six kickdown levers. The super isx lever is supposed to be longer than the 1-barrel lever. But The one barrel lever on my Duster ws the same length as the two barrel lever. Weird.

Sounds like you have the short lever RDJ. Bending the rod made up the difference in the lever length.

Dan, this may have come up before, but do you happen to have measurements for how much shorter?
