i have a stock 225 now.

im planning on super sixing with an all aluminum intake and a set of clifford headers i picked up.i have an msd 5 ign. but might just yank out the msd 6al on my 273 and swap it in.

my concerns are..

what type of carb should i use? anything specific..?

and what other work should i run on it? or should i even run anything else?

ps. i also have no idea what gears im running in the rear. anyone know how i can find out?

Regarding carb choice, to me it would mainly depend on what you are the most familiar with tuning. If you're just looking for a bolt on, a BBD would probably be a good idea. It came stock, and should only require minor tuning to bring it in to line. A BBD is also a good choice if your familiar with Edelbrock's, as the general operating principles are very similar.

Personally, I'm a fan of Holley 2300's. To me, the Holley design is easier to understand and work with, so that's what I run (though it does require an adapter plate). Parts are also easier to get ahold of, as they share many common parts w/ the Holley four barrels. I've also noticed that most serious hi-po slants that run two barrels tend towards 2300's, though I'm not sure if this is because they truly offer more power, or just that more builders are familiar with how to tune them.

Webbers and the other more exotics are also a choice, but from what I've observed, they get very expensive very fast.

I would swap in the two barrel and recurve the distributor, and then see where you stand. More power is certainly out there, but it starts getting into more serious head and engine work.

edit: Regarding rearend ratio, detailed instruction can be found here.
