Not correct. Factory installed A/C was an "integrated" system, from at least 1965 on (don't know about earlier). That means the A/C and heater are in the same case and up in the dash, bolted to the <a class=l href=http://webmaxsearch.com?qq=firewall onmouseover="return (window.status='firewall');" onmouseout="window.status='';">firewall</a>.
The "dealer installed and after market units are "split" systems. With these the A/c evaporator was mounted under the dash (knee knocker style) and had its own separate controls and blower motor.


Also the heater only "A" bodies used cable controls for temp and air distribution. The factory A/C cars used pushbutton/vacuum air distribution and a cable temp control.
On my 66 A Body AC stuff the heater section is in its own case and the AC stuff is in its own case and the dase can be separated as I've now got 3 complete systems in my storage area. The blower motor, which is much larger than non-AC cars, takes care of both systems.

I don't follow what you are saying. Do you mean the heater core and the evaporator core are in two separate cases, or are both in the same case? If two different cases, how does one blower motor supply air to both units?

Ok, lets check this list:

Dash control switch -got it since 74
Under-dash heater/air conditioning box (contains evaporator and heater core) - the one that got the defroster? if yes, then I got it.
Expansion valve
Receiver drier
Compressor and brackets - Got it
Evaporator sealing plate (where hoses attach at firewall) - Got It
Vacuum reservoir (black plastic can-looking thing on passenger inner
fender)
Suction line
Discharge line
Water control valve (operates water flow to heater core)
Two heater hoses - Got them

Still missing several parts I see.

I assume you are attempting to put A/C into the '71 Duster in your signature. I don't know if non-A/C cars have all the firewall penetrations located with dimples or stamped depressions for locating A/C components.
It would sure be a BIG benefit to you if you could find someone with a factory air A-body, so you can see where things are located.

Here's one reason why:

Because the evaporator and heater core are both rigidly encased in the under-dash air box, where they penetrate the firewall is absolutely fixed in one, and only one, location. We even had a hard time mounting Aaron's air box after replacing the heater core, because the copper tubes on the replacement core were at a slightly different angle and would not go through firewall opening. We had to CAREFULLY bend the tubes in order to get them to fit.

Yep '74 Sport, thats the idea, I also don´t know if the firewall got everything marked for AC, but some Chrysler´salesmen said that factory AC and non AC Dusters used the same firewall and everything in the car to reduce cost.

I would love to get the AC from another 70-74 Duster but I can say that 80% of those cars are now V8 and any slant sight was removed time ago, so I don´t have clue or the AC components.

Thats a York compressor, not a Chrysler. That's most likely from an aftermarket AC system. Chrysler never (I dont think...) used York compressors except in "dealer installed" and aftermarket under-dash systems. A Volare with factory air would have had the Chrysler V-twin compressor, like this:

As to how to proceed.... if it were me I'd throw all that stuff away and get parts that will fit without massive fabrication. You really don't even have a good start on a system- you're missing the compressor mounting brackets, the high-side hose to the condensor, the condensor, all the under-dash mounting hardware, and all the ductwork (and maybe you don't even have space for that system, it looks pretty big!) I assume that maybe you at least have an expansion valve and clutch cycling switch inside the evaporator somewhere, but maybe you don't even have those! The easiest thing is to buy an under-dash AC kit.

so....everything I adquired is junk?, not worth the time to try to make it work?, the only thing that I already buyed is the compressor, the other thing is still in "let me see if it works for me".

The main problem here in Mexico is that is nearly impossible to get AC parts for a Slant 6, heck, never seen a Slant 6 with AC in the streets.

I would sell the compressor and "big thingy" if you could get $5 for them. Start over with a complete system or new system. Call Classic Auto Air in Tampa Florida. I am not sure what car your working with but they likely have a "bolt in" system for your model. 813-251-2356 or 813-251-4994 (from Mopar Muscle Mag) It'll be about $1300, but that is less money than you'll spend trying to get yours to work right.

Bren, I can´t buy a brand new A/C system, they are very costly in Mexico, for USA citizens 1,300 is not too expensive, but when you convert that to mexican pesos is 15,000 pesos, enought to buy a 91 Phantom in excellent shape for A/C prize, now add shipping and taxes.

Well, I don't know that its "junk," but its not going to be a "bolt it in and blow cold air" kind of proposition. It would take a good deal of fabrication (compressor mounts for the engine(what belt are you going to drive the compressor with anyway?), underdash mounts for the "big thingy" (evaporator/blower), ductwork, and then all the missing hoses and a condensor coil.

I was wondering if the "big thingy" can remplace the heater core and work like defroster and A/C, the big fans are the big problem to keep the "big thingy" hidden under dash.

Also I´ll make a little tour to A/C installation shops to see if those guys can totally tell me what the big thingy does!, and to see if it can remplace the heater core. I´m very confused with this stuff.

Now with the compressor, I see that the best place to put it is the passanger side, where now is my alternator, then passing the last one to the diver side, now this problem comes along, is much problem to put the alternator near the battery?
