I need help. Will a 225 slant six from a 80 LeBaron with automatic bolt up to my 60 Valiant with standard transmission? What do I need to do for this swap?

Do you know what type of starter is in your 60? Is it the old direct drive Prestolite unit or a newer gear reduction unit?

The crankshaft hub on the 80 SL6 is bigger so you will need a "big hole" flywheel from a 1968 or newer SL6 (uses gear reduction starter) or have a good machine shop open-up the hole in your current flywheel. (Prestolite starter)

You will need a pilot bushing and it is best to make sure the hole that accepts the bushing is drilled and reamed to the correct size.

You will need to swap the oil pan and pick-up tube from the 60 Valiant onto the new engine.

You will have to use the carb. off the Valiant or switch over to cable throttle linkage.

There is some extra crap on the 1980 engine you won't need so you may want to take that stuff off.

That is all I can think of.

If you can't find a newer flywheel locally I have one off of an 84 /6 I can sell you.

MAke sure your old one IS a 225. hte oil pickup tube from the 170 will not fit. I lost a crank over this issues.

Just wondering, does the 60 valiant have the alternator mounted on the drivers or passenger side of the engine?

On the driver's side, close to the battery. If I remember correctly, my '62 had the alternator on the passenger side. So, to complete the sequence, does anyone know where it was in 1961?
