Went in the shop the other day, just looking around. Went in the back, and a crankshaft was knocked over!! The #@*& dog got inside and tipped it over. The crank is out of a 1962 318 Poly motor. Forged...Stout piece.
(I know it's not a 6...but it's still different!)
Q. It must have been there a couple of days. Do you think it cracked or warped when it hit the concrete?????? Should I just re-check the specs on it?
Any help is appreciated.

Very doubtful.

The 318 poly head flows well and can be made to perform. One of the mopar rags did a article on a stroker poly engine. I think they were able to get it to around 400 ci. Weiand makes some performance intakes. My brothers poly 318 will bark a second with an automatic in a '66 Fury III. It has a factory cast iron 4bll intake from a 56 Plymouth wagon.

Yeah, I was all over that. They use an "LA" 4.00in cast crank, and bored it .090 over. Made a 402 ci. Gary Pavlovich put 2.02In & 1.60Ex valves, can't remember cam specs...).500-some lift. Check it out at

Anyway, it made right at 500 hp. Nice numbers. :D Redline was 5000.
Mine's a 326ci (kept the forged crank) would be nice if I'd finish it.
REALLY thought about dropping that in my dart......going to the dark side.
I still might....Erson has dropped off the earth. Summit no longer carries them, as of last week. I need a 270 grind, and now I can't find it.
Oh well....

For my brothers poly we sent the original cam to Reeds Cams and had it reground. He wanted something just slightly hotter than stock to keep good lowend torque for moving the old C-body.

That would tend to ruin your day, especially if it happens at about 5000 rpm.

Oooo, that hurts. That looks like it may have even been a standard crank.

BigBlockBanjo, It probably never hurt your crank. You also may want to try storing it with it hanging from the flywheel flang. This helps to fight against warping.

I'm just "pulling your chain", you are not going to hurt a crank if it falls over. (it can hurt your ears or your toe if you are too close when it happens)

Yes, a forged steel SL6 crank, 2 3/16 diameter, heat treated steel - snapped in half. :?

This crank came out of a good running engine that made some noise and stopped running, luckly... at low RPM. The engine was locked solid upon our attempt to restart it.

We pulled the engine & popped-off the oil pan, thinking a con rod bearing had spun & "piggy-backed". It took a few minutes to see the busted crank, we wiggled all the con rods in their side clearences and all looked good....noticed that the rear crank flange was sticking-out more then usual... then the "oh crap" moment!

The amazing thing, we swapped-in a different crank and a set of new bearings... the engine came right back to life, like nothing had happened! You gotta love a Slant for that... any other engine would have been busted pieces of metal scattered all over the roadway.
