Howdy all,

The recent thread about running out of gas, senders, etc. made me decide to relook at my fuel gauge stuff again. I bought a Autometer Phantom 2 5/8 diam fuel gauge for the pre-89 chrysler advertised, 73 -12 ohm. Put it in...didn't move much from E when tank full. SO I measured resistance from sending unit threaded stud to ground with ign. key on and off, tank full...40.6 ohms. Siphoned/drained tank dry. Measured resistance again from threaded stud to ground, ign key off and on. Still 40.6 ohms. Created a new tank ground, re ran tests, same results.

Course now I am stuck..I still don't know if the 73 -12 ohm gauge was right and the existing sender is bad,or if I need to punt and get another gauge that has a "universal" sending unit and put in that sender and a know matching gauge.

Summit's Autometer Phantom (5816) for a 240 - 33 ohm gage (2 5/8") is about $50 AND REQUIRES a "universal sender" not listed in Summit but listed in Jeg's as 105-3262 at $32.00 more. If I am going to the trouble to pull the old sender, I also would try a Mopar replacement, but can't find a spec. for its resistance. Or a part number...anyone have either or both? Mine is a known to be original in a '64 D100.

Thanks

The 73 -12 ohm gauge is the correct one. I would say your sender has died, or maybe the brass float has sprung a leak.
