Hello! Who sells the Full Grove Mains that
people are saying to use. I just bought a
set from NAPA (Standard Size) (Clevite) and
they're only groved on the top half??

These are no good?? What's the deal?

As far as I know, no one makes a set of full groove main bearings. You must buy two sets of mains and use the upper half of both sets. The notch in the bearing cap must be made wider, so the bearing will locate properly.

You can avoid some costs by filing the taboff the second set. I never had a problem with this method. The tab does not hold the bearing, the"crush" of the cap holds it. OR... you can grove the other half your self with a small grinder, try a 3/4 grove or full grove.

I prefer to notch the cap. If you file down the tab, then any time you change bearings, you have to file again. By modifying the notch in the cap, it is a one shot deal. Also by filing the tab, you stand a chance of having a high spot, if you are not carefull, then when the bearing is installed, it might be tight. Any of the ways Will sugested are fine, these are just my personal preference.
