Sorry to read you have to sell the car, sounded like you were getting a good start on it as a project. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you will almost certainly not recover your investment. Ultrahigh-dollar super-rare HemiCudas and such are investments best characterised as "very risky" due to the volatile nature of the old-car market. Anything less valuable just really can't even be classed as an investment; money spent on them generally goes into the car and stops there, seldom ever making a return trip to your wallet. This is the other side of the coin that (still, for awhile) lets us buy slant-6 A-bodies for (more or less) affordable money when we're buying: in general, they only sell for affordable money when we're selling, too! I fear you'll be very lucky to get your original $3500 buying price back.

You have asked "What should I sell the car for?". That's a question most of us don't get the luxury of asking. Most of us have to ask "What should I advertise the car for?", and then hope someone'll come along and pay something close to what we want.

I too fear that $3500 will be at best tops IF the body is very clean and rust free. Being an AZ car it should be.

A bodies are not that sought after, especially the later ones. It's a shame too.

I have a '76 that I will probably die with. I am so deep in it that I haven't even kept receipts, I just plain don't wanna know.

There is an absolutely spotless original owner '76 Duster on the board at my local hot rod shop. 31,000 miles and it looks like new. Guy is asking $8,900, and it hasn't raised any interest in over 6 months.

Not to go against your mother, but I would try to find a way to keep it. It's got a good motor and slant six trannies are cheap. The insurance can't be too bad and you have to have wheels if you're going to go to school, work, or do any of the other normal things people do.
