Hello this is my first time here, but not the first chrysler I've owned. Im 25 and ive had 4 mopars. I have a 65 valiant 100 four door that im working on. its needs some work, but for six hundred and 10 minutes to get it running it was well worth it. The prob that im having is the holley carb that is know for always giving you probs, but i need help adjusting it. the car has a 225 slant in it of course thats why i chose this forum hope i get a response soon.

There are several carb experts on the site... SlantSixDan is probably the most notable and I'll bet he'll contact you soon.

In the meantime, we'll likely need both some numbers off your carb, the symptoms you are experiencing, and how long it's been sitting or how long since it has had a carb kit put in.

When i bought the car it had sit for a year but needed work before it was put down to say. I put a reman holley carb on it, new battery, sending unit is rusted and tank needs replaced, new head work, valves exc., just got done putting the second fuel pump on it when you sent the reply, and ill have to get the numbers off the carb. If you could give me a general idea were to look. I'm not a car expert, but i'm good at trouble shouting and keeping them running. this is my first vintage car that I'm starting and I chose this forumn for along the way advice and I want to modernize it but keep it as an original non-orginal hot rod that I would have done if i lived in the 60's. I'm going to take pic's and as soon as i do i might need help putting them up.

Remanufactured carbs are often problematic... one comes out of the box running fine, the next one is cursed with poor rebuild quality.

What symptoms are you exhibiting?
- Hard Starting?
- Poor Cold-running?
- Rough Idle when warm?
- Engine bogs or sputters on acceleration?
- Idle speed too slow / too fast?

Once the carb has been identified for sure we can give you adjustment settings for choke, fast idle cam, etc.

If you're going to keep the car for a while, then a factory service manual (anywhere from $40 - $80, depending on where you get it) is worth its weight in carburetors.

still looking for those numbers. rough idol is the most probs that im having. runs fine when i start but after it warms it wants to bog. if i keep it nuetral its fine but when i put a load on it or if i adjust it to run fast it works fine, but im concerned with the fast idoling poseing a problem. outside of that it runs like a bat out of hell, but i want to completely redo the fuel system do you have any suggestions?

Check the ignition timing, that can cause a bog, although it is probably a carb issue.

I'm not the best one to help with carb issues, there are others who have much more experience than I do, and I'm sure they'll chime in soon.

But again, nothing beats the factory manual (not Chiltons or Haynes). It'll pay for itself twice over on your first carb adjustment / repair.

Listen to Slanted on buying a manual for your car. SlantSixDan referred me to buying one for my Valiant and boy was he right. That manual is 3-4 inches thick for just '68. Compared to Haynes which is barely an inch and covers multiple years and models all in one book? Its well worth it. - Dan
