I'm looking to make my stock 225 '71 Swinger sound more like a V8. I was thinking about installing a cherry bomb muffler, but am reconsidering after reading some of the negative feedback on glasspacks on this site. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have one and it sounded semi decent at first. Then the bottom just fell out and it sounds terrible. Im getting a new exhaust next week. Don't waste your money on one.

I like my Magnaflow. Nice, mellow sound, not to noisy in the car (in fact, its nearly silent at around 60-65).

The slant 6 will never sound like a V8. It has a unique sound all its own. You can get loud mfflers, no muffler, or whatever but it still will sound like an inline six because that's what it is. That doesn't mean it can sound good but it won't sound like a V8.

Get a "turbo " muffler from your local supplier. Around here that means a muffler that looks and costs stock but is louder and flows well. If you need new pipes get it made in 2 1/4" aluminized pipe. Even if its just the tail pipe. You can get the rest later.

My car has a single exhaust 2.25" and a turbo muffler in the stock position. It works fine for my fairly hot Super 6.
The cool part about these mufflers is that they will get you past any police officer but all the girls can still hear you. This was critical when my sons were new drivers.

A good turbo muffler is less restrictive than a glass pack.

I am running a Cherry Bomb brand Turbo Muffler. It sounds great. It has a nice low rumble at idle and an angry rapp at WOT. You can tell she ain't stock but no where near loud anough to get in trouble with.

Thanks for the input. Looks like a mixed bag of preferences.

I was intrigued by this one
http://www.cherrybomb.com/vortex-mufflers.html

It looks like a better approach to a glass pack. Long term durability-- well, who knows? The aluminized steel is probably okay in non rust prone areas.

I bought a Cherry Bomb Turbo that dropped in on my single exhaust on my van. It was fairly quiet until my converter gutted itself. Then it was a little louder.

When I bought my Duster the exhaust was rotted. I had a muffler shop add a reverse Y pipe and spilt it to duals. I told them turbo mufflers. They put something on that looked like a glass pak. When you looked in there they were not straight through. The call them "round turbos." Nice rumble @ idle. And are bone stock quiet @70mph with 3:23's. (at least inside) 60-70 they have a drone.

The headers I added did make it louder. I had them put in a crossover pipe and that quieted things down some.

I have a Flowmaster turbo style with a resonator downstream. It sounds pretty nice, with no droaning and not too loud inside the car.
