O.k., after really thinking about it I came to the decision that I dont need a daily driver drag car so Im keepin the slant. any way my goal isnt really that high I think a 14 second slant would make me very happy. Anyone have any 14 second slant recipies?

Turbo would be pretty easy to do I would think. Thats the best bang for the buck unless you don't mind refilling No2 bottles.

14's the easy way would be make the car as light as possible, put a 4 bbl and header on a stock motor, and hit it with a 75 shot of spray.

The hard way would be to make the car as light as posssible, build up the motor with a ported head, cam, higher compression, 4bbl, headers, loose converter, and 3.91 gears.

Unfortunately, it is the easiest way.

I think turbo's are the only way to make up the displacement disadvantage without having to use "race" hardware. Nice thing is, if you stay out of it, they still return the economy of a "stock" slant, and the power is always there.

I agree, a turbo would be better, unfortunately I have yet to see an "easy" turbo installation that actually ran worth a crap or made the power you can with spray for the time/effort involved. A turbo that runs well is not "plug and play".

Nitrous is not necessarily "plug and play" either, but it is less costly and time consuming to install and tune.

A bottle is no more "race" hardware than a turbo. IIRC, the claim to fame for both was military aircraft use in WWII.

A nitrous Slant gives the economy of a stock Slant too, because it can be a stock Slant. Just because the button is there don't mean ya gotta push it.

Yes, I have been involved in a turbo Slant project too. Been there, done that. I reiterate, 1 blue bottle of whoop-ass to go please.

I was refereing to the big cam/high compression/ported head/large carb/etc. method of low times, not nitrous. I agree that a nitrous is definitely the most economical, if you don't count refilling the bottle.
Sorry, still don't like it. Despite the ease, and the fact that there are simple kits to install, it is still a bottle that you have to refill. I drive 60 miles round trip to work, mostly on a 2 lane highway. If I use the bottle to pass (a stock slant just wont do it ), I would be refilling that blue bottle about as often as I fill the gas tank. Even if I extend that out to once a month, or every 6 weeks, that just isn't acceptable to me. What a hassle. Maybe it isn't as big a deal at the track, but to me, nitrous on the street is for the "bling-bling" crowd. More for show than for go.

Just my opinion.

What, accelerate from 55 to 85 in under 2 seconds so you don't have to run oncoming traffic off the road?

Let's just say that unless the road was absolutely dead, the '73 Dart I had did whatever speed the guy in front of me did, 'cuz there weren't no way I was going to be able to pass. I'd be lucky to be able to accelerate up to 65 mph getting around somebody.

My GTC, on the other hand, will get up to 85-90 just by breathing on the pedal, without downshifting. If I had to rely on a blue bottle every time I needed that kind of speed, I might as well buy it in bulk and set up my own refilling station.

It probably sounds like I’m one of those pesky speed demons that are never happy with the speed of the guy in front of me. The reality is, I’m driving through farmland, with a variety of people, some in farm trucks doing 45 to the guy in the Mustang Cobra that passed me like I was standing still. The speed limit is 60, I try to stay within 5 of that, and the road is busy enough to make it necessary to pass (sometimes often), and hard to do.
