It sounds like your '73 might have had a problem or three. Passing on a section of road with a 60 MPH speed limit shouldn't be a challenge for a reasonable driver in a stock slant six A-body in good tune. I frequently drive on two-lane country roads with a speed limit of 70, and pass as needed. No drama for me, the passee, or oncoming traffic. Sorta-stealth driving: They see me, but they don't have to do anything.
That's with a plain rebuilt 225, BBS, 904 and 2.94's. The closest thing I have to hotrodding on the engine would be the 0.030 cleanup bore and the HEI conversion.

I had the pleasure of visiting Dions neck of the woods yesterday(yes, really). Where he drives may well be one of the most frustrating drives in the continental US. Anywhere 5 miles outside of Spokane is a 50mph grind behind a ton of folks doing the same grind. Stevens County cops like it that way....so half the population has a wreck and a record....so they do 45...

I give up pretty fast because you risk life and limb to get 60 miles in 60 minutes.

A really fast car would help......but you would also need stunning brakes.

I bet gmader would have a few tales about his commute.

Could be, but we have our share of roads just twisty/hilly/populated enough to be make passing interesting. I'm very selective about my passing, but it's not a problem. The only time I get aggravated is behind the Winnebago parade, with too little space between them to guarantee a place to squeeze in.

Your stepping into a stock slanted car from a hopped-up 360 anything might have something to do with it!

For what it's worth, I also want more oomph out of my 225 - for just a little more cushion.

When my slant was stock I was afraid to pass on a 2 lane road. Right now though mine can go from 60-90mph in around 4 seconds (when the holley is working right) and tops out at about 115mph

I must say your 73 sounds very depressing!

I drive in the same kind of conditions and each week I have pass several of the new Mustang GT's. I recently rebuilt my 74 SL6 for torque and mileage per Doctor Dodges recommendations and it has proven out to be light on her feet and very quick! The gas pedal is very sensitive and it is hard to stay with in the speed limit when I do hit the freeway. Even before the rebuild at 365,000 miles on the stock motor, was very agile and had power. Sounds like they water down your gas too much where you live.
