Post subject: Which block is it?
PostPosted: Tue Apr 16, 2002 9:26 pm
Hi everybody,

Been scratching my head trying to figure out which slant six block I have. The main casting number (which is a long number on the forged crank block in my car) is 030-11. The rib on the water pump mounting flange is the same thickness from the outside to the block (so it's cast crank, isn't it?) Or is it? I can't find out anything about that casting number. I know that somebody or the Doc will know for sure. Thanks.

It is a "Later" block, (78-84) most likly a cast crank. ( I say most likly because one racer I have talked with tells me he has a "thin water pump rib" block which has a forged crank in it. . . Uhhmmm (??)
Pop-off the pan and take a look, let us know what you find.

Got this motor up in an engine stand today, but it was too dark out by the time I finished to get a good look at the crank. I'll know for sure first thing tomorrow when I get home from work.
