I got an email from STP answering where their oil stabilizer went.

www.stp.com

Thank you for contacting us about STP oil Stabilizer. We always appreciate hearing from our consumers.

Unfortunately, it is no longer available. Although a great number of customers enjoyed it as you did, the sales volume was not enough to warrant our continuing to market this product.

If you use the STP oil treatment you will be using an anti-wear additive. Thw anti-wear additiveis ZDDP. This additive has four times the amount of what used to be in motor oil.

I had always "heard" that STP was made out of synthetic materials and that it wasn't a particularly good product. I don't know, it's just what I heard...I never used it much so I have no first hand knowledge. But I have used Lucas Oil Stabilizer, and Lucas claims it is made from refined petroleum only. Won't Lucas do for you whatever STP was doing before it became unavailable? Davey

No loss. Engine oil does not need "stabilizing" or "treatment".

Destroying your engine oil's ability to protect your engine. Yep, Lucas does that just as well as STP. See Here.

When we ran turbine reduction gears in the propulsion spaces on ships in the Navy, we did have lube oil de-emulsifiers that were specifically for removing air that had been whipped into the lube oil. Without these we were instructed that machinery would tear up in fairly short order. I did not know Lucas caused the air entrapment problem it does. I will have to ponder on this. Davey

that page perfectly demonstrates the delicate balance achieved when designing the additive package that goes into a quality oil. anti-wear is just one variable in the big picture. anti-corrosion, anti-foaming as demonstrated, and viscosity modifiers all get displaced when an aftermarket friction modifier is added and brings the whole house of cards crashing down.

dont do it.

as bob says, start with a quality oil in the first place and add nothing.
