What have you found to be a "good" header gasket?
Where can I get one?
What is the part number?

I have a stock manifold setup and the gasket leaks in several places.
Not alot, but just enough to see the exhaust leaks.
I had the manifolds surfaced but the FelPro gasket still blows out.

I also keep blowing out the head pipe gasket. Three in the last 6 months.

Besides a good gasket and surfacing the manifolds, does anyone have other suggestions?

I drive it pretty hard once it warms up.

I think Tom Drake may be able to help you. With my set up I still use stock gasket. Don oh ya still using dodge girls sign on I have to go. byyyyyyyyyyyy

headers will yield modestly more power than duals.

the trade-off for that power is noise and heat levels that are higher.

the wisdom of increasing said levels inside an A-108 in questionable.

i used to have a bent flange mating to my exhaust manifold. used to keep burning out tha gasket. b4 i figured how to remedy the problem i got complacent when a pretty warm and noisy cab. i wonder if headers would be warmer and noisier than that?

maybe it would be a different type of noise?

what about header tape, or ceramic coatings?
how much do they help?

is there any differences between dual Dutra duals and "stock" Dutra duals?

recently, in ebay, i see a seller pitching a super six exhaust manifold. is there a difference from a 1bbl manifold?

Headers may give slightly more high RPM power than Dutra Duals. How much time do you spend near redline?

Header wrap will help with the engine compartment heat issue, and shorten the life of the headers.

Dual Dutra Duals gain you a little at the high end (again) and make you lose your intake manifold heat (which is a good thing to keep on the street even if you live somewhere it never gets cold) and automatic choke provisions. Standard Dutra Duals keep your intake manifold heat and automatic choke provisions.

There is no difference between a 1bbl and a 2bbl exhaust manifold.

Speaking of the Dutra manifolds, I will be needing to get the exhaust work done soon. I have the stock dutra setup. (cut manifold) The exhaust shop wants to know what size flanges he needs to order for me. This seems strange to me because I thought exhaust shops just had everything they would ever need for any car on site and if they didn't they could make it. We plan to come off the manifolds with 2" pipe on each one. What should I tell him?

I am assuming that flanges are the flat pieces of metal with a big hole and 2 bolt holes in it that is put over the pipe before the end is flared. correct?

u r correct as to what the flange is.

i had a similar
experience once.

the muffler shop didn't have any flanges in my size, so they saved the one from my old pipe. seemed weird to me, too. i guess there's just so many sizes out there that it'd be hard to have 100% of them?

do the Dutra's have the same dimensions as stock?
maybe u could take the old flange in as an example?

better yet. . .take the Dutra in before u mount it. then they can get exactly what u need! ! !

I can gaurantee that headers will not add more heat under the hood than 2 20 pound pieces of cast iron with 2 exhaust pipes.

The Cox Brothers make a super good manifold gasket that is even reusable. Their address and phone number is posted on the board somewhere.

Good question, is the stock flange the same used for the front dutra dual? If so, does anyone have a part number of it? Maybe I just buy them and bring them with me. Towing the car to them and the correct flanges not being there would suck.

I have run clifford headers (+ clifford 4 barrel manifold and holley 390, true dual exhaust all the way out) in my duster for 15 years, and my dad when it was his car for 9 before that. no other mods were ever put on the car.

I live in minnesota, and when we used to have winters, we had -40 wind chills and we have 104 degree summers now.

I never had any problems with cold starting, ever. never had anything resembling "killing low end torque" either. the power over stock (which isn't saying much) was vastly improved. and this was not only a daily driver car, it was the ONLY car for the household.

now I don't have anything against dutra duals at all, they are a good product and I am glad to see people taking an intrest in making custom parts for the slant, but the idea that I have to keep reading over and over on this board over the last few years that headers are too much for the street and they aren't worth it is a load of republican.

until you actually OWN them for as long as I have, and drive them under the same conditions for as long as I have, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss thier use.
